How soon after having a baby did you resume sex?

Contributor: lick123 lick123
I was wondering how soon after having a baby did you resume sexual intercourse? My reason for asking is I am at 6 weeks and cannot imagine resuming sex yet! Also was it painful or super loose feeling?

My doctor always cleared me after my 2 week exam, except the last time me made me wait 3 weeks. I heal very fast. It was a little bloody but worth it.

Six months for the wife. Dr said wait till you feel up to it and there is no pain. I thought it was about the same feeling as before.

It wasn't painful for me at all. I was very scared to put anything into my vagina including a tampon but I was so ready to get back to work. I waited for about 8 weeks before resuming sex.

I forget exactly how long it was, but it was the day I went in to get the staples removed from my C-section. The doctor said it was ok, and we did it later that day - I couldn't wait any longer!

I would say it depends on how your labor went among other factors. Did you have an episiotomy? Was this your first baby?

For my first, I went "by the books" and waited 6 weeks to the day. That was a long 6 weeks! After my second, we waited 2 weeks. After my 3rd, it was 10 days. After my 4th, 3 days.

With my first two, I had stitches because the Doctor did an episiotomy. When I was in labor with my 3rd I had a different Doctor and when I mentioned it he said I didn't need it and he was right. I did have a tiny tear somewhere that went un-noticed until after I left the hospital, but other than that I healed much faster.

My 4th baby was the most painful delivery as far as I'm concerned, but I wasn't sore at all after she was born and was able to get up and walk to the washroom within minutes so it was a fair trade off.

Forgot to add, I wouldn't say it was painful but we did go slow the first two times. No loose feelings either. Everything went back to normal

The first time, we waited the recommended 6 weeks. The second time, we made it maybe 2 weeks. It definitely wasn't loose feeling and it was a little tender, but not painful.

now, after son i performed ORAL on husband 4 days after i had him but did not let us have sex until i was done bleeding

I only have one child. After he was born, we were cleared once my doctor saw me after the delivery (like 2 weeks). My doctor really worked with me, and she took the time to make sure she would not have to cut me and that I didn't tear, during labor.

I think it's different for everyone, depending on the kind of birth experience. I had a c-section and then bled for almost the whole 6 weeks. 3 days shy of 6 weeks the blood stopped and we got it on because we hadn't had sex since 2 months before I gave birth (my husband was freaked out because the baby had dropped and he just felt weird putting his wiener near the baby's head haha) so we were SUPER HORNY. I felt incredibly dry because I was breastfeeding, but a little lube and taking it slow helped immensely. I think if you have an episiotomy or tearing it could be worse. Just take it slow and tell your hubs ahead of time that you may ask him to stop and you might not want to continue at all. It's important to be comfortable and not hurt yourself =)

It was more than a year for me. My husband had issues with sleeping with a 'mom.' Eventually he got over that. He told me I felt exactly the same as before my son was born.

It did get better. But he's older and can't do it anymore and also doesn't want to do anything to fix that situation either. He claims he doesn't care.

So here I am!

Thanks for the responses. I am over 2 months and still nothing. Very scared. only 2 stitches, no episiotomy, just scared. I have been giving him lots of oral, but nothing else. I think I should just go ahead and try it.

Honestly I guessed 6months to a year but now that I think more about it we moved at 3months and I remember having sex before we moved so maybe 6 weeks to 3 months. I felt the same way so maybe that is why I am thinking it was longer. No pain or huge loose feeling. I was rather tight before and a little less friction may have been in my head too. If not...well I just had a kid a few months ago.

We tried waiting 6, but I think it was 4. My wife did have some stitches from slight tearing so we waited until that was completely healed, but she couldn't wait any longer than that. No problems with returning to normal size or anything.

I was cleared at 6 weeks but waited until my son was 13mths before we could resume intercourse. I had a second degree tear and the area was just way to sore to get back into it any sooner.

I tried a few times after, but it was still pretty uncomfortable and I just wasn't in the mood so I eased into it. I still can't get wet like I used to though, and it makes me sad
