How important are political views when dating and relationships?

If you were a great Republican and met an awesome Democrat, could you date them? What if they were an Independent and you are a Libertarian?

It's definitely easier if you share common values. Being of the same party increases the chances that you have similar values - but I'm sure there are many split couples out there canceling out each others vote!

For our part - we vote the same.

I agree with this. I think the person being respectful and able to communicate rather than rude about it is important.

So long as they don't try to shove their values down my throat, then it would be fine. When people like to argue with me....that just completely puts me off.

I know I would never be able to date anyone who subscribes to a Conservative point of view. I hope we could at least agree on issues, rather than party lines.

Yes, I almost broke up with someone because they voted for Bush II. They cheated on me, so it wasn't that hard to leave them either.

It would depend on the specific viewpoints. There are some political positions that I simply can't accept, such as being against queer rights or abortion, but there are others that I can agree to disagree on.
