Browsing Reviewers

Contributor: Dragon Dragon
You can look at Eden's toy reviewers by - alphabet, rank, activity and popularity.

How exactly is "popularity" determined?

Why is it not possible to view by number of reviews submitted?

I was just looking at it the web page. I completely understand activity. I'm currently on the first page for it- but that's mainly because of the forum the last few days. Alphabetical is obvious. Popularity makes no sense. But what I really wanted to do was find reviewers that had written about the same amount of reviews that I had.

I seemed to suddenly jump up on popularity when I wrote a large amount of reviews in a week. I'm not sure how they calculated it, that was just my observation.

I was also wondering why they didn't list them by most reviews. Actually I asked my partner that yesterday! That would be very helpful as people who have written a lot of reviews tend to be great for asking questions.

*large amount of reviews in a week.* **THAT** falls under the category of *activity.* You had a lot of activity on the Eden web site so you were able to boost your own rating.

LOL. I'm not surprised. I don't think you're the only one. It's a hodgepodge, weird system. I'm not sure anyone could actually predict ratings well. They are tied to the activity of everyone else right now.

so we are being pitted against one another? i thought it was a rating of us individually - now i understand that it is more of a competition....

the rankings were bothering me as i thought it was implying i was not writing quality reviews - now thanks to your explanation i understand that isn't the case and am no longer concerned

thanks

I'm still confused by the whole thing but i think it is starting to make its self a little more clear. It seems that because of my job and the fact that I am only going to have internet service once a week at best for maybe an hour or sothat I am going to get penalized for not being active on the site on in the popularity ratings? huh. ok I think thats what i'm getting out of it, am I wrong?

Yeah. "Penalized" may be too strong, but your rating will fall if you're not active. Currently activity is 40%, popularity (which I don't get... 60%) they are going to change that to 30% activity, 70% popularity.

It doesn't reflect if you are writing "quality reviews" and if you aren't "active" on the site your rating will eventually fall. My understanding is that forums don't count at the moment either, but I'm not sure of that.

the ranking system is under construction, so to speak- hence all the recent discussion about it in the forum. It's true that right now it is calculated in relation to the other reviewers (on a curve), but that might change soon.

DBD- Popularity is determined by number of comments on your reviews and ratings reviews receive (usefulness).

Also, that new percentage balance was a suggestion, but it's not set in stone. The ideas generated in the thread on this issue are all being considered, and I personally hope to do a more complete overhaul of the ranking system to make it a more accurate reflection of quality level and experience.

So if you don't get a lot of comments because 1. you review unusual products or because 2. your reviews are actually so clear there isn't much to say ---- you're not "popular"

I've read a well written review and thought. Good job, that covers everything I've thought of, and usually my comments are because they actually don't answer questions.

Thanks for the answer though...

Can we get back to can we actually look at reviewers by number of reviews?

While we're at... Could we please fix the search engine on the "contributor" page? The only successful search I just managed was when I could actually see the reviewers name that I typed. Copy & Paste from comments, and from forum names did not work.

I wanted to send a follow up message about a prior review.

I had to click by letter, then search by activity. Then page through to the right person.

If I am looking for a specific person, then I often look by alphabet because I then I know exactly what order they will be in. I am not 100% sure how all the other sorting techniques are calculated.
