An Announcement....dun... dun...dun: It's back!

Contributor: Ansley Ansley
Hey everyone,

I think we can all agree that it's just not Eden without a couple of friendly contests within the community, right? I had a chance to meet with Fred today and guess what?!

We're bringing back the Weekly Review Rumble and Contributor of the Month Award.

We'll also be adding a new weekly rumble which is centered around discussions you all create for the forum.

There are a few changes to the COTM and Rumble contests and we'd like to have your input on the criteria which should be met in order to be nominated for each event.

Here are the Prizes to be Awarded:

- COTM Winners will receive 500 points.

- Rumble Prizes can total up to 500 points.

In the past, members have suggested there be a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for the Rumble contest. If we do this, then the 500 points will need to be split between the three winners. If that's how the community wants to go, it would look like this:

First place: 250 points
Second place: 175 points
Third Place: 75 points

- Is this fair or should the winner take all for the rumble?

- What do you think qualifies as a good discussion in the community?

- What do you think qualifies as a rumble worthy review?

Your feedback is greatly appreciated; more than likely this will go up for a community vote if there are drastically different opinions on the events so please feel free to weigh both the pros and cons! Thanks, everyone!

I think the points sound very fair, and I thinkit would be way cooler to have a few winners and spread out the love. In my opinion, rumble worthy reviews are a review that informs and intrigues... Teaches you new things without being a boring history lesson.

"What qualifies as a good discussion?" is the question that made me ponder a few minutes. I think the best discussions are the discussions that get people really talking. Not just "Oh I agree", "Me too", "I do that all the time", but that really get people talking and thinking. Maybe it could be judged by how many people comment and leave real feedback?

500 or 5000, I sincerely doubt that anyone here would be interested in getting points. I would rather see other activities being brought back, such as Flash Your Stash, interviews, tutorials, etc.

I like where SourApple is going with this. Flash your stash was fun, but what I really liked was Eden forum parties. Everyone came to the same place, had great conversations, got to know each other, and played games. Maybe this time, don't give points, gift cards, or toys for winning games.

I'm for Eden cutting their costs and all, but I made a few little Eden friends at a few of those parties. It's a fun way to build community.

For now, let's just focus on the three events in the original post.

I think the points sound fair!
As far as a good discussion, well I think if it gets responses more than a yes or no and the original poster is returning to continue the discussion then its a good one. A post that is made and the OP never returns and there isn't much being discussed is not. That's how I feel anyway.

True story! Good conversations are better when the OP adds to the conversation, it elaborates their thoughts and builds a better discussion.

I think the 1st-3rd places sound reasonable for rumbles. Good discussions would include something that catches my attention and makes me think.

I am loving these suggestions. I think it should also be judged on how the posters handle flaming and heated discussions. Make it sort of a featured discussion sort of thing.

I love the flash your stash. Even without a prize I think people would still participate. I mean points aren't what they used to be so I think just having the contests without prizes would get just as many people.

Thank you everyone for your feedback. We're going to get the first rumble for reviews up this Friday (like we always did), so start thinking of your nominations!!!

Honestly, I'm concerned about contests. New reviews just aren't getting the views or votes that they used to. If no one is reading and voting on reviews, how can reviews be nominated and voted on in a rumble. Is the hope that contests will bring about more new review reading and such? I hope it does!

I'll be excited if it brings more activity, and I'll certainly submit some noms! I echo the other posters, that points don't really hold the same weight, and I'd be just as happy if the contests were just for bragging rights.

I think it is fair to split the points.

A good discussion is one that brings together both information and insight into the community.

A rumble worthy review should be well written, all major points should be covered, the review itself should have some type of flare, and the content should be helpful to customers.

I love the idea!! Splitting the points is much better than just one winner as well--that was kind of a let down to know there were so many worthy reviews and only one person would win.

---Suggestions---

**Can you keep the name of the reviewer anonymous completely until after the voting? Keep the popularity issue minimal. (I realize this may need a bit of programming, but to remove the name of the contributor for a few days and then add it back after the tally would even the playing field for everyone.)--Does not work with the Forum one, but that may not be as much of an issue.)

**Maybe instead of the points, (which could be depressing and may cause future issues since the winner would only able to spend a small portion of their prize), why not have a few items or a larger discount code set aside for them to choose. For example: 1st prize: 50% off item under $$50-or-choice of 2 Facebook Friends items...2nd prize: 40%-or-choice of 1 Facebook Friend item...and 3rd prize: 30% and choice of an item under $15.

**Flash your stash was a great idea! Maybe have an EF package as a prize for that one? Items that are EF branded in a tote....

I am excited that they are both back. The points seem very fair as well.

This.

I mean, it was exciting to be a part of it, but I really wish that more people's opinions were showing up in the voting.

I think it will take time to build up a base of folks who regularly visit the forums and know it exists. The bulk of the voters have left.

Very true. It's not like we can force them to vote.
