Dealing with a difficult newbie

Contributor: biancajames biancajames
I had an individual who is new to the site give me a "not useful at all" on a review because it was an off site review and she thought the summary was the full review. I messaged her privately to explain that she needs to click the link to read the full review. She replies saying I deserve the terrible rating because she doesn't want to click on the link. What the hell? I get that some folks don't have the patience for off site reviews, but that doesn't mean its a horrible review! I would just ignore it, but what if she gives other off site reviewers similar rankings? Advice?

After re-reading through this post, I would say this is something to direct to either JR or Kristi.

Unfortunately, it's a fairly common occurrence for people to not read the entire review despite the "Read the entire review" link. I've noticed some off site reviews actually state in the experience section on EF to click on the link to read the full review. Beyond that I don't think there's much you can do and it's one of the risks of off site reviews. A single bad vote shouldn't have a significant impact on your overall review rating. Even on site reviews get the occasional "somewhat useful" or worse vote out of the blue. It's just not worth worrying over in the long run.

While I don't agree with her down voting because you posted off site, I have to say I find it annoying to have to click offsite. I agree contact JR about it, because they should not of voted and sounds like they need talked to by someone other than the reviewers.

Pretty much what Kindred said.

There isn't much that can be done, except include as much information as you can in the on-site portion.

Thanks for the feedback all. I just thought this seemed kind of unreasonable.

Sadly, it does happen fairly often. I have given up on posting off site reviews for Eden for exactly that reason.

I have not given a single "not useful at all" rating myself. Maybe I've been lucky enough to read some really good reviews, but with all the requirements, it would be terribly difficult to review poorly enough to deserve such a rating! I hope you are able to fix things by following the contact advice everyone else gave!

I prefer on-site reviews, but that doesn't make the review more or less useful. Just very slightly less convenient.

I think it's ridiculous to vote down like that because you don't want to click a link. Okay - so don't vote. You didn't read the review so how can you judge if it was useful or not?

I always put a line in the experience section explaining that it's an off site review. That seems to help some. I still get less votes and comments on off site reviews than on site ones. People just don't want to click the link.
