Do you ever get discouraged with writing reviews?

Contributor: Cowgirl-Cutie Cowgirl-Cutie
I'm curious because I'm new to EF and so far I've written two reviews that are published. Hopefully I'll have more coming out soon. My second review is definitely better than my first. I can't help but feel discouraged when I get votes below useful. If you vote low then at least tell me what you didn't like about it and how I can improve. Ya know? Well, for that reason and even though I've been super active lately and I've upped the quality of my forum posts my rank went down to 4.9! Blehhh...

I suppose what I'm trying to ask is do you ever get discouraged when writing reviews? So far I've found that it's tough to swallow those votes especially when you worked so hard on writing the review! If you don't get discouraged what advice would you give people who do?

Thanks!

Forget about the lower votes, look at how many EU votes you have! That's fantastic! You're still new here and you wrote those reviews without the help of a mentor, that's huge!!!

I see that you have one now, talk with her about ways that you can improve, she'll be able to give you some good pointers.

Truth be told, we ALL get low votes sometimes. Does that mean we wrote a crappy review? No. Having one low vote and 10 higher votes shows that someone just didn't care for it, or perhaps didn't even take the time to read it!

Don't be so hard on yourself! You're doing a great job! Your rank will fluctuate as you participate more on Eden. Getting one or two low votes won't effect you that much, just keeps buzzing around the forums, writing reviews, and making friends!

It's easier said than done. People can be vindictive or petty sometimes and give you a crappy vote for no reason. Some just vote randomly I think as well. Don't feel bad, I once made a very polite suggestion on someone's review for a toys use and he thanked me by giving me 8 "not useful at all" votes on my reviews! I know it wasn't a reflection on my work, but it still pisses me off.

Wow That's awful. I know some people will just click randomly and vote to get their points, and don't pay attention to what they're actually clicking, but to go give someone negative votes out of spite is something else.

Each review is not going to be useful for every person. Keep that in mind, write the best review you can and you will gain more confidence in the review writing. Then the votes will not mean as much because you will have gained a level of confidence and have the experience to know when it is the review or if it is just random voting. Keep up your good work!!

Thanks everyone! I'm glad to see that I'm not alone in feeling this way. It's just odd to think that people randomly vote but I'm sure it happens more than we know. It's sad really but I don't see anything that could be done about it.

I've found that I enjoy the community here on EF, and the points are a huge bonus, but I would like reviewing anyway. Hopefully I'll gain more confidence as I go.

Oh yes I've been discouraged plenty of times. I have figured out to take it slow on those days that there is no fun in it.

I've written 200 reviews at this point, and yes, sometimes I get discouraged while writing them. Most of my reviews get fairly good ratings, but there are times where I'll get a rating below useful. Those times can be frustrating, especially when the voter doesn't tell me what would have helped them.

The one I am working on right now seems so lackluster.

So. Yes. I do get discouraged while writing.

Yes, I do.

But more so right now, I've been putting off writing reviews and seems so many of the toys I have are discontinued.

Yes. My rank hasn't changed in a while and with recent downvotes I've wondered if my reviews are really helping people at all. =/ But I appreciate every supportive comment I get!
