Should I review something I plan on returning?

Contributor: BBW Talks Toys BBW Talks Toys
So, I purchased a sling. I thought I was going to love it. I hate it. We tried using it in different positions but I was so uncomfortable that I just cannot use it. I'm returning it. Should I review it? Seems like people would want to know this information but I feel weird because I won't own it anymore after I find/reprint the shipping label and return slip. What would you do? Review it or just leave it be?

(The reason I put this in the "ethics" forum should be obvious)

Personally, I usually think of refund policies as only if you have not opened the item or for certain items, if you have not used them. For example, if you ordered clothing and it did not fit, you could return it. However, if you wore it out, then you could no longer return it. To me, you would technically have to use the sling to properly review it. Having said that, the EF return policy doesn't say anything about this situation, just that items can be returned within 60 days of receipt. So I guess personally, I would not as it would "violate" my personal interpretation of a return policy.

I think it would be beneficial for other people to know why it didn't work for you, because it might also not work for them for the same reasons. I would be ok with seeing a review on something somebody actually gave a legitimate shot, but since there won't be anything to follow up on, just don't do a follow up.

I did use the sling and I am allowed to return it within the 60 days, which I'm comfortable with doing since it didn't come into contact with any bodily fluids. It was on my legs and behind my head. (If I ordered a vibrator I hated, I would NOT return it because I'd used it...) So since I gave this a fair shot AND it falls into the guidelines of being able to be returned, do you still think I shouldn't review it?

I would like to see you do a review and in that review I would like you to address the reasons you are returning it. Especially, if it is being returned because of a quality or fit issue or even an issue where it didn't physically work for you.

If you used the item to the extent that you feel you can review it, then that's fine. I think people would especially want to know why it did not work for you. In your case, which I misunderstood from your first post, whether or not you keep the sling is irrelevant. It does not invalidate the experience and subsequent review.

If this is something that can be returned after it proves a failure, then perhaps by reviewing it, you'll be saving a whole mess of returns on the product, which saves everyone time, energy, and money.

Well you tried to use it multiple times in multiple positions. So I think your review of the sling would be worth reading despite it not being a positive one. Good reviews aren't necessarily positive ones. And hey, your review might help someone else figure out if it's really for them too.

I would review it. EF explicitly states that the reviewer's job is not to sell the product-- it's to provide a thorough, honest review. If someone tried a product that I was considering, and they hated it and decided to return it, I would absolutely want to hear their side of the story and their reasons.

That part isn't the issue... I have no problem reviewing a product I didn't like. I just was wondering what people thought about the ethics of reviewing something I tried but am returning because it's very uncomfortable.

It would help the shopper to know more about the product and why it didn't work for you.

It's a very useful review even if you are going to return it. Thanks for going ahead and sharing the information.

If the return is legitimate then the return is legitimate. If you feel that you have enough experience to write a review then you can write a review. Don't worry about it - there are plenty of single-use things that you wouldn't "have" after use, and you can still write a review about those.

I personally would not be returning a sex sling after I used it...sweat? I would only be returning it if I put it over my door or something (depending on the kind) and it was clear it would work, or the straps didn't fit my body type so it could not be used. But based on what you said, I see why YOU are returning it.

Anyways...that said. Returns aside, since you did USE the item. YES, please review it for us and explain why it did not work.

For other items, like lingerie, I also encourage this. I did this once or twice and uses that info in my review to pin down a good re-sizing chart.

If you really hated it and no bodily fluids or privates came in contact with the item I'd say you have a right to review it.

You wouldn't own it, BUT you will have tried it out. AND not liked it. That's helpful info for someone looking into the product!

As others have said, as long as you actually used the product, please give us the benefit of your experiences.

yes. i think it would be good for the community if you were tell us why the toy didn't work for you and you could possible warn others why it may not work for them so that they might not buy it. not all reviews have to be super positive!

Exact-a-mundo! I just reviewed a dong I sent back. While I can't get over the smell of the thing, someone else might be able to and damn it was a gorgeous cock to boot!

I would say why it did not work for you. However, if you think that it didn't work for you for a specific reason (you don't like certain positions or stimulation, etc.) make sure to include that. So if another member does like that particular thing, they don't write a good product off completely just based on your experience.

Negative reviews are often more helpful to the buyer than positive ones. As long as they are honest and thorough reviews and not just 'Lol, this sux don't buy!'

Just an update on my particular situation since this thread is making it's way up the list again...

The review I wrote for the toy I returned was removed from the site (with no hesitation on my part) because I wasn't able to use it, even though I was able to give an accurate description of the item and just how horrible it smelled.

So, if it's something that concerns an assignment of any kind one MUST email JR about the situation and find out how to proceed from there.

I'd review it. I mean obviously it didn't work for you, so it may not work for others either. I think you should still review the item, and tell the aspects in which it didn't work for you.
