When I first started reviewing each vote was something that motivated me to keep improving, I was excited to see better votes. What really upsets me is when I work for days over a great review, get great votes and then one person decides to vote down.

I don't lose sleep over it or anything, but it irks me and discourages me from continuing the hard work. Like, what is the point? You work hard to continue improving on your place in the community and someone just for fun votes you down, on no bases.

I know what you mean. It definitely irks me too. But the good news is that those kind of people never stay long at EF. They get bored being annoying and bullying and just leave to go pick fights somewhere else. (Or they make a stupid decision and get themselves banned or something lol.)

It kinda is to me. I want my reviews to be the very best I can do. To me, if 99% of people vote extremely useful and a couple vote useful, that's a fail because I haven't been able to acheive my very best.
It's kinda different if most vote useful. Then I definitely know I need to do some serious improving.

I'm sure other scorpios will know exactly what I mean. I like to achieve my best in everything I feel passionate about. Anything less is failure and I can't stand for failing in myself.

But there's nothing I can do about it so as much as it annoys me when I first see it, I end up brushing it off. Ya can't change it - it's just the way it is.

BUT - there are two ID's who seem to vote and follow each other around the site. I don't know if it's a couple or someone has just got two accounts. Either way, it looks suspicious to me.

PS - I don't bother to contact the person. If they didn't want to give feedback in the comments part then they more than likely wouldn't bother to tell me in a message either. If they wanted me to know, they would have stated it.
If I read a review that doesn't make a useful vote, then I'll usually leave a comment (unless someone else has already said it) letting them know what they missed or could have perhaps added - cause I genuinely want them to be able to improve.

You are so cute! 99% is like AHHHMAZING! You shouldn't base your very best off of other people though. They don't know what your very best is .

I have seen the two IDs and was in the process of reporting the down-rated votes to Kristi.

I really don't bother to contact the other person either. I used to, but only in certain situations now. For example, if I feel that someone on the site is much more knowledgeable in a certain category than me and rates a review of mine useful when others didn't, I might ask them about their vote because I think I might have someone really valuable to learn. Like...if I write a review on a flogging product...I don't know a huge amount about them and might leave something out and would want to know the opinion of those who DO have much more experience. Make sense? lol

I really wish people would contact me though! I'd be more than happy to answer and I wouldn't feel annoyed or bothered to answer either. It's a learning experience with every review and every new product.

As for commenting...if it is something I think is obvious, I let others comment. No reason to keep repeating. If it is something that is probably more of a subjective vote, I leave a comment for often. I hope that made sense too lol.

~LaUr3n~ I have read some of your reviews and they were nothing short of amazing. I have only been on this site for about a month or maybe a bit longer and people like you helped me a lot. I went through and read reviews and saw how others did it and what they included. Then I took that and added my own style. I always try my best in my reviews and include everything I can think to include and I am positive you do the same. There are so many spiteful people, I wouldn't worry about a few bad votes. Maybe they are jealous that you are a more talented writer, or girls get catty. Maybe they think you are prettier than they are and they gave you a bad rating for that. There are so many reasons some of which could be a bad day, or misinterpretation. Don't take it to heart. Your Gorgeous, strong, positive and a wonderful reviewer. Take pride in knowing that you don't need to take revenge.

Prior to names being listed, with votes, I thought there was some, just mean spirited negative votes in general.
For myself, I rather not vote, if negative, but I will try to leave a comment.

In some of my early reviews, I always felt that some of the negative votes were the result of the reader not having a use for the product in their own life so they voted "not useful" which is probably an honest vote for them. I found this the case once you get beyond basic vibes and dils.

Double dils, harnesses and anal toys are not of interest to all but they are so much fun!

Or if the review dwells too much on the personal experience. A bit of that is fine, but I want to know how it worked, how you used it, and if possible why you think it did (or didn't) do what it did (or didn't do).

down voting someone(critisism) is a way,at least for mr, to better myself. I take it to heart only if it makes sense. I want comments and votes on my reviews, good or bad, so I can better myself. I do want them to be in an objective and descent manner, though. We are all adults here and should act as adults.

I think to many people do give extremely useful votes when the review doesn't deserve them. But sometimes people do just vote and not read the thing at all but just go with what every body else picks

Agreed. I've given negative votes to a few reviews that had overwhelming numbers of 'useful' and 'extremely useful,' votes, because I simply didn't feel they were that useful. It's nothing malicious.

One of the reviewers actually emailed me and demanded to know why, which was a pretty awkward experience. It's not like I wanted them to feel bad, or like I thought the review was half-assed. It just wasn't very informative in terms of what it was like to use the toy.

If you give the lowest rating on one of my reviews, please feel free to let me know why. Tell me what could make it better, what you would have liked to have seen in the review.

I'd think much better of you as opposed to seeing your name constantly on my lowest rating and no feedback, ever, especially when you never vote on any of my 'great reviews'.

I'm learning, like everyone else here and I AM getting better as I go. I love it here. Most everyone is so pleasant and kind, but hey, not everyone is going to be that way so play nice or just be an ass and go away.

I'm still learning. If they explain why they gave me a bad vote, then I appreciate it. Most people on EF are nice adults and don't resort to immature, malicious voting. At least, that's what I've found.

I had something similar happen a few days ago. Someone had been rating several of my reviews much lower than other votes, and I contacted them to politely ask why and ask for constructive criticism. They responded politely, and it turns out that there was a misunderstanding, as my reviews are hosted on my blog, and they had thought that what was on EF's page was all there was!

I've been downvoted for a few reasons. One of them is spite, or something like that. And the obviously spiteful downvotes I just ignore because quite honestly it's not worth starting anything over. Sometimes I'll send a private message when I can't figure out why the vote was so low, but only one, asking politely why they thought my review wasn't useful so I can make future reviews better. Some have responded, some haven't. I've been told on one particular review that the person reading the review wouldn't have any use for the item and therefore the review wasn't useful to them. While I don't agree with the reasoning, there wasn't much I could do about it other than thank them for taking the time to answer me and move on.

My guess is not. But they were only active for a few months, so not the end of the world really. I also try to do a little research on the person who voted low, go to their profile and check out their voting habits. If they're giving everyone else EU and gave me a SU, I'll ask them politely why they voted so low. Most of the time I see these people voting mostly usefuls, but with a healthy sprinkling of SU mixed in as well. I also haven't seen any particular one stick around for terribly long either. And I'll stop rambling now

Wow, that's ridiculous. If you wouldn't use a toy, vote on how well the review is written. I vote on toys I'll probably never use, and vote high if it's a well written review.

I've also given less than outstanding marks to things I WOULD use (or even own) if the review isn't written well or doesn't give good information.

These people must not understand what the voting is for.

I've noticed once in a great while lower than regular votes from a small number of people who NEVER write reviews themselves. Over and over again. Hmmmm.

I agree! I also research the person. Only one of my 'down votes' I thought was BS but what can ya do... If I'm voted low and have had all good votes I read some of their reviews see how well their reviews really are.

There have been a couple of my reviews that received "somewhat useful" and "worth reading, but not useful" votes. I didn't do anything about it because maybe my review really wasn't at all useful to that person. I believe those votes were for off-site reviews, so it's possible they didn't see the link to read the full review, in which case, the summary I posted here may not have been at all useful.

I voted that I wouldn't do anything. I have seen retaliation voting on Eden, but when it occurs it is obvious as to what it is.

Although, I may get lower than extremely useful, I usually try to keep in mind that each person voting is looking for something different. I am also a perfectionist and become obsessed with my reviews, but I have learned to accept other people's opinions, even if I might disagree.

I think it's pretty rude that ONE person will vote not useful at all and have a lot of votes on the other choices. Then to rate the editor poor! I think that is just horrible. I wish there was a way for Eden to check these things out but they are busy with more important things. Maybe we need a page in ethics so others are clear on the voting.

IMHO, I feel like I may have been down voted once, but then again, I was a n00b at the time.

Oh, another thing that is slightly related that really bugs me is when people clearly have not read the reviews, but they rate it anyway. I know that sometimes people do it, especially when they're new or Point Farming, but it's REALLY NOTICEABLE for off-site reviews, when there are less page hits than there are ratings...

Fishy. Too bad there's no practical way of preventing that. :/

I agree totally, and the fact that I had to witness such childish behavior today is sad. I don't think having a page on this would end up with the results that we all would hope for, these people will continue to do it anyway.

If I feel someone has down voted me it upsets me a little bit, but I don't do anything because it is not that big of a deal to me. If it was something serious and repeating I would probably message them and see what it is they see in my reviews that they don't feel is useful.

I have gotten upset at times when I think my reviews are great and I get a useful or somewhat useful, but it really doesn't matter because I write my reviews to help others, and I think that is what they do. Usually if someone doesn't find my review helpful, there will be someone else's review that will most likely work for them.

This makes me think that those who do that are simply getting more points for themselves, especially if they haven't contributed anything.

On another note,
I vote personally on how much I liked a review as far as usefulness - if I got the information I was looking for, if they have good "structure", etc. I will admit I can be a grammar natzi but I don't expect everyone to write perfect mind blowing reviews all the time; I just like to see something other than: This (insert product here) worked well for me. It did what it's supposed to, and it's cool.

Usually I find that some products are harder to right on, though, and I try and cut slack because I know that it sucks to put a lot of effort into something and feel like no one likes it. Lol
