Do you have a friendship with your mentor beyond reviews?

Contributor: indiechick indiechick
As an advanced reviewer while I do not have to take on another mentor I have made the choice to do so a few times. I currently have a mentor who rocks this world. She does not pretend to know everything and keeps our relationship and open dialogue. If she's got a question on something that i have experience with she knows she can ask and as always I appreciate the advice that she can send my way.

I'm just wondering if you relationship with your mentors ends at reviews or if you have developed a friendship beyond them reading your reviews.

I spent a lot of time talking to my mentor after I graduated, and then she just vanished for no reason. I don't know if she got busy or found a shiny object, but it is what it is...

I think if there is a good mentor/mentee relationship, there is no readon it should end after graduation.

I'm not sure if my mentor is active anymore.

All but one of my past mentors were really awesome. My first mentor experience wasn't that great. I didn't pick the right mentor. You really need to pick the RIGHT mentor for yourself!

I try to keep in contact with my past students. And from what I can tell by the comments they make about me; I did a great job. I still get messages from the active ones. They usually contact me with their questions.

My mentor no longer comes on here (or at least I don't think she does) I haven't seen her around forever. It's sad because we became good friends.

I can't speak for anyone else, but you really were a great mentor and any student would be lucky to have you!

I think this mentor program is about more than just review specifics. There is so much to learn here as a newbie and if you pick the right mentor, you really can learn so much!

There are two I considered myself to be friends with beyond being mentored...

Both went out of their way to be super sweet.
Not that any of my other mentors were not nice or not sweet, I just didn't seem to click with them.

My mentor are still good friends outside of the program. She is very easy to talk to and does know so much about the site and toys. She has helped me in more ways then just writing with picking out toys and how to become better with writing for anything not just reviews. I am glad that I found EF as well because I have learned so much more here than just buying toys.

Actually i have a friend as one of my students right now and it is very nice, i can give criticism and it really doesn't hurt her feelings.

I am currently friends with four of my current students and have remained in touch with about 12 of my previous ones. We do fade a bit sometimes depending on our schedules--we each get busy, but the friendships are still there and we pop in and say hi to each other occasionally.

I always keep an open line of communication with my students, and there are VERY few that I get through a class with and don't become friends. Of course I have students that I am MORE friends with, but I still get messages from past students asking for advice or just checking in on me. I don't like to keep it all business, because people are more willing to work and learn if there's mutual respect and friendship.

I wish I had been a bit better friends with my mentor when I was under him. We didn't have a lot in common and we aren't very close, but he's a cool guy.

I don't take criticism very well, so it is tough for me to look at them as a friend. Working on it!

You've been in a class for a year...I've never heard of anyone being in a class that long. Most mentors I know would graduate you after a few months at most...
