Just a reminder about what Diameter and Circumference are.

Contributor: eri86 eri86
I was reading some response to one of my reviews and noticed that the person who has edited my review had introduced a very large error to my review. I've fixed it.

They replaced they word circumference with diameter. Honestly. A toy 6 inches in diameter would be nearly 18 inches in circumference!

So just to be clear.

Circumference is the linear distance around the outside of a closed curve or circular object.

Diameter is the linear distance from side to side through the center.

You would be VERY surprised at the number of people who do not understand this.

This lack of understanding is more common than you would think. I have been 'flagged' for pointing this out to people who don't get it.

Maybe doing it this way will help the geometry-challenged among us.

I am speechless that first off I am reading this as a post and second the response that people just don't understand.

This was something I learned in middle school and again refreshed with it all through high school. How can someone not understand this? Even if you are mathematically challenged. I guess Wow! is all I can say.

Also, if you want to FIND the circumference, you can multiply the diameter by 3.14. I've had to do that a few times as sometimes sites only list the diameter, and I tend to think better in terms of circumference.

so someone edited your review to make it incorrect?

Good thing you caught the mistake! A 6 inch diameter is a painful thought.

A six inch diameter---Ouch! I am glad you caught the mistake.

Thanks for the public service announcement. Diameter and circumference are easy to confuse.

THANK YOU!!! I have had many people try to correct me when I use diameter...I refuse to add circumference.
