First I would like to say, I was scared to start publishing my own reviews, and I did have someone help me on my last one with the editing. Then I realized I could do it on my own and use my Microsoft Word program, which I tend to forget I have half the time because I barely use it.

So my question is for the Mentors is this what you use to edit reviews? I was thinking about it at that time when it came if I decided to be a Mentor would that help out?

I think the Microsoft Word check might make a good supplement to double-check your grammar, for sure.

But, proofreading is only the smallest portion of mentoring, at least in my classes! With me, the mentorship focuses on what to include in the review, and how to make your writing clear and readable, and what kind of thoughts to share. Usually a student will submit three drafts to me, a first draft, and I'll give back comments on more things to include, a second draft, and I'll give them comments on fine-tuning some of their arrangements, and then a third draft. At the third draft I'll get to the proofreading, so Microsoft Word could help with that part... but I don't think Microsoft would be a very good mentor for all the other important stuff!

Thanks Antipova, I am aware of the other things that go a long with it. My main thing is with the proof reading at this point, that is why I did not mention anything else. Maybe I should have specified that more clearly.

I have a Mac which automatically spell checks everything that's typed on the screen. So I just use that. I usually don't take a fine tooth comb to grammar on reviews I'm mentoring someone on. I focus more on the content. I fix anything that sticks out to me based on what I remember from editing papers in college. lol

Thanks Kira for the input. That is cool I never used a Mac but I hear they are good.
