Shirking Mentor

I don't think my mentor likes me or something, and I know shes busy but it has literally taken her a week to NOT read my review, is there anything I can do?

You and your mentor should establish expectations as to when you would each like reviews/corrections by. I tell all of my students that I will try to respond within one week but message them if something will delay my response to their review. Also consider that some reviews may take awhile to read and reply with comments. Remember that we as mentors are not simply waiting around for your review. We have other students and our own lives. Consider that the time you forwarded the review may have been inconvenient. If you can not work out this issue with your current mentor, you have the option to cancel the class. Any free assignments from EF are still due. If you do cancel, be sure to express your expectations to your next mentor before submitting a request.

I was unemployed at the time that I went through my mentoring process, so I was able to get things done very quickly. My mentor was online most of the day so I think I was done within a week, week and a half.

We first established a kind of time line for our communication so that it could best fit our schedules.

Maybe you should shoot your mentor a message asking what kind of time frame you will be working in?

If your mentor has your review do not cancel class! This will lose your review! I had two reviews lost after my mentor failed me. There is no way of getting them back either. The get lost in internet space. If you are unhappy with your mentor than you should send her a message saying that you would like your review back so you can cancel class, since you think that they are not the mentor for you.

This is only true if the mentor hasn't kicked the review back to the student, yet. However, another lesser known but just as infuriating glitch, is that if you start a review and end the class for whatever reason, you won't be able to publish it or submit it to an administrator without signing up for a new class.

You need to be patient. As a mentor myself, I realize that life can get incredibly busy and sometimes it can become difficult to complete Eden chores when I have to do something, like say, a paper for college. If you're really distressed, I would recommend you message your mentor.

I would definitely recommend messaging them to see what their time frame is. Maybe their schedule and yours just aren't going to mesh, so you could have them submit your review back and cancel the class and get yourself a new mentor.

I had the exact same problem with that mentor! I submitted (and she published) the necessary 2 reviews to pass the class. She said that she could graduate me. I waited, and didn't hear back from her. I waited so long that I decided to just write another review. I ended up submitting 4 reviews to her even though she said I could graduate after she approved the second one.
I then ended up waiting a week to hear back from her about the last 2 reviews. Finally, I messaged her, asking about the status of those reviews (and with a question about becoming a proofreader). Instead of contacting me back, she instantly published my latest reviews and graduated me without saying anything. Didn't even answer my question!

Let's not drag this mentor through the coals, shall we? If you have any issues that need to be addressed, I believe the correct person to contact is Kristi (@edenfantasys.com) via email and ask for her input.

As a mentor, I know life can get pretty crazy. Message her and let her know your concerns. If you get no reply, submit a support ticket or as Stormy suggested, email Kristi. Good luck and hopefully everything works out for both of you.

Another thing to consider is that some people have reported not getting notifications from Eden. I don't know if this is the case here, but it's possible your mentor doesn't know they even have the review.

This is true, this is what I just thinking about. There are email sent to notify her that you have submitted a review, she might not be getting these and doesn't know that she has anything in there. I tell my students to send me a message on Eden to let me know, since sometimes I don't check my email. Also have you checked the status on your review, she might of read it and it could need revised?

And that seems to be the case as evidenced by another thread. And I'm only replying to this to get it on the front page so they can stumble across this post.

Agreed.

To the OP: Everyone can see who your mentor is. I realize you're frustrated, but I'm wondering if you've tried to reach her through either email or messaging on here?

If not, drop her a line. I don't always get notifications. Also, when I was a mentor, I told my students (like Kindred) that it would take me, usually at least, a week to get back to them... amongst a very long list of expectations regarding the work I expect them to put into it.

Yes, there are things you can do (dropping the class, e-mailing me), but the retaliation voting you've been doing on your mentor's reviews is not acceptable. I will be contacting you privately about the retaliation soon.

She got back in touch with me today and explained that yes, she's had a lot going on outside of EF that's minimized her free time to get online. We're currently straightening out the other issues.
I'd like to make a public apology now, in case anyone found my previous post to be too harsh. If there were a way to delete it (because even I find it to be borderline mean), I would.

To be honest, to everyone who stumles across this, I feel bad for posting this. I didn't understand the site as well as I do now. I feel terrible for posting my concern in the forum, instead of contacting the appropriate person through their medium.
If I could take this down now, knowing how hurt it made my mentor at the time I would.
I think at the time, pretty new on Eden, I expected someone who was there all the time, like an Eden person with the green around their name.
If I had been stumbling across this post as a newbie, I would send JR, a dude with green around his image, a message on here. He can help you with most any concern and gets back to you pretty quickly.

At this point I don't think the usual dude or sheila can see who my mentor was, so again to that person I am terribly sorry for any hurt feelings or feelings of anger, my ignorance as a new comer, brought you. I am sincerely sorry.

It actually does not happen anymore. This was a glitch that was fixed now
