Do you automatically give 5 stars to reviews with videos?

Any review has to provide info I am looking for to receive a higher rating. So far most vids I have watched last several minutes, 7-10. If I don't learn something about the product then the rating drops. I have to have more than the EF description.

I didn't think we were rating reviews with an A for effort you need more than lengthy content to get a good score from me.

As others have said, if it's a good review I'll give it 5 stars. Some video reviews are very helpful, some are okay, but I appreciate the work that goes into it.

The majority of the time I don't watch video reviews unless it's about a product that I really need more information about. I don't rate reviews because they have a video attached to it. That's not giving those who don't do videos a fair shot. I personally don't have the equipment to do video reviews, but I try to cover everything there is about the product in the review itself with pictures.

I almost never watch the videos, so no, definitely not.

I only give good ratings for good reviews. I like to be well informed and read a few reviews, both good and bad, before making a purchase. If it's a good review (video or not), it'll get 5 stars from me

No, Sometimes I feel like people create videos that are sooo out there and unuseful that it's unreal. like they are doing it just for the gc.

No. I read reviews and if they deserve 5 stars, they get five stars... wether they have a video or not.

In my opinion a video doesn't make a review, it is usually just stuff that is repeated from the persons review anyway. They are just a fun addition usually.

I don't because several of the videos just show the product with music playing. I prefer when the reviewer talks about the product.

That's how I feel about it too.

I really try to stay objective. One thing I really don't care for are the off site reviews - they interrupt the flow of the review for me.

As a heads up, off site reviews benefit EF quite a bit and we encourage them -- so even though you don't like them, I would hope you're not letting your dislike guide you in voting poorly.

I suggest not reading, voting on or commenting on reviews that are in a format you don't like. It's kind of like going to a sushi place and writing a review when you hate sushi. Who does that?

I try to always remember that reviews are for customers, to help people decide what to buy. Many of us as contributors read hundreds and hundreds of reviews every week. We are confronted with 40 or 50 videos a week. We can get kind of obsessive about what we think reviews need to be useful or whatever.

In reality, if you think about it, most of us aren't actually shopping for even a third of the stuff we're reading reviews for or watching videos on. If we're not in the market to buy it, how can we determine the usefulness?

Sure, sometimes a good review will change your mind and make you want something. A bad review can make you no longer desire it. But, for the most part, the most valid votes come from those who are shopping for the product and helped by the review.

What the format is, if it has a video, if pictures are included... those are things you can choose to look at or not -- and if you find they're influencing your vote over much, my suggestion is move on to something you enjoy rather than entering a negative vote on something you weren't going to like no matter how well done.

Videos can be useless, I won't give an automatic 5 star rating just because there's a video. I take the time to watch it.

Not unless it's a good video.

It's never an automatic rating for me. I've seen some videos that really pale in comparison to the amount of detail you usually find in a written review. I always evaluate on a case by case basis.

No. I rate based off the content. Videos and photos are just bonus material.

No, that is only one piece of the review. I personally don't care for them but will watch them if I am rating a review. I look at the overall review and base my rating on that.

No, I'd never give someone a higher rating just for posting a video.

No, not automatically. The video needs to contain useful information in order to earn the 5 stars.

depends on the quality of the review

If a review has video that's informative and complementing the written review, I don't see why this would be anything less than 'extremely useful'

I absolutely do not do this simply because not all videos are useful. I can't tell you how tired I am of going to watch a video to find out a little more about a product only to be subjected to 5 minutes of someone partially clothed randomly rubbing the toy against their cheek or something similarly stupid.

effort does not equal quality. plus often there is more work put into a review than you may realize. like if a person did a lot of research, self-editing, etc.

I just find videos helpful at showing the shape or size of a toy so I don't particularly base my votes on videos.

I give higher ratings for someone who has a video and lots of pics and if its a wearable item and they show what it looks like on I give 5 stars
