Description Review for a toy I dislike

Contributor: Femme Mystique Femme Mystique
I have received a lot of great toys from Eden. The most recent one, however, I strongly dislike. Because it is a description review, I know I need to be objective. I've found this to be particularly challenging on this review.

My question is, how do you write something objective about a toy you feel so strongly against, especially when it has qualities you don't think anyone would like (ie greasiness, stench, etc.)?

We don't want you to lie about the product - ever. So be honest. I know it is hard to find the balance between subjective and objective - the only part of the review we ask to be totally objective is the Summary.

I suggest you describe the toy in detail, in each section. If it smelled bad, mention it in the smell/taste section...if it felt greasy, write about that in the materials section as well. Then be totally honest in your Experience section about what it was like when using the toy.

Those sections are there to be used. We want the real feedback. And if a product sucks, chances are we won't stock it. So, your honest input has a real effect on how we choose what to carry and what to take a pass on.

Thanks!

I will say that there have been some products that I was assigned to write descriptive reviews for that never saw the light of day at EdenFantasys. I don't know if it was just because of my experiences or not, but I am here to say that Victoria is telling the truth about not stocking items that get really bad feedback from the reviewers.

Totally true! We're like "uh oh, 2 stars....nope" - although, we do occasionally send it out for a second opinion/review...botto m line is, we pay attention and we take your feedback seriously.

PS: Jimbo rocks.

What I do is write about what drew me to the toy in the first place. If it was a surprise me assignment, I would talk about your first impressions with the toy and what was appealing about it, then write about your disappointments. You can also talk about, like, "the material on this toy vs this other one that is made of the same thing, but feels so different," or whatever.

Here is an example of a really icky item that I wrote a review on: link

Anyway, good luck and I hope that gives you some ideas.

If there are qualities nobody would like, I want to know about them! That is all.

I'm just bumping this thread because I'm having the problem the original poster is having right now. I am really struggling to be objective with this toy and I'm wondering if anyone has any other tips.

What type of toy is it? Just so that I can better tell you how to go about doing that.

What is the main factor that makes you dislike it? Function, size, shape, quality, material, something else?

@ Sir

It's a pocket rocket with three attachments.

@ Adriana

It's honestly quite of a few of those things, but I think design and function would be the biggest problem areas. The attachments and battery compartment are very, very difficult and this makes use of the toy (its functionality) difficult as well. I think I'm going to take Victoria's advice and make my summary very, very neutral and then approach the pros and cons as delicately as I can in the rest of the review.

Ahh, alright. Well, what you have in mind sounds fine. But also make sure that it's obvious why you rate it whatever you choose to rate it.

Although I don't know the exact issues, I would probably approach it from the angle of.. why you think it was designed (the positive goal) but mention that, in reality, it fails because of X, Y and Z. I don't know if that helps, though

I can sympathize - I have received two complimentary products to review - both inexpensive - dare I say cheap - basic plastic vibes. Actually nothing like the high-end products I have purchased and reviewed on the site.

One I volunteered for - shame on me - one was offered - shame on me for not recognizing that it wasn't 'our style'. I finally got smart and declined the next one offered - another low end product.

I managed to squeeze out objective reviews - but it's not a pleasant experience.

From now on, I'll only take assignments that are inline with my interest. If they are not forthcoming I'll just take advantage of EF's periodic generous discounts.

This is a great site run by fair-minded people. I'm not complaining - I hope it doesn't come off that way.

If you can maybe a suggestion of a better made product of the same type? Personally I would find that immensely helpful if I were searching for a specific type of product.
