did it take before you successfully got a free review assignment?

I just had four separate new items I was watching closely, and I still missed each one. Not giving up yet though.

When a new item is first put on EF, reviewers can't get it assigned until one of the majors puts some basic info on the page. Once that happens, reviewers scramble to be able to get the free toy and you have to be pretty quick cause it only goes out to the first 3 people who ask. So if it's been a few weeks since it's been put up, it's probably already got 3 assignments.

This is incorrect. I've received assignments and posted a regular review before the descriptive review was ever done.

Then you must be doing something different because whenever I try to get an assignment, the option for free assignments is greyed out until the descriptive review is published.

I tried for ten or so free assignments before I was assigned one. It just takes time. Keep trying.

Some things show up like that and some don't. It depends on if the item needs a DR or not.

I went through the Mentor Program but didn't request an assignment during the class. I requested two things after graduating and was sent one of them.

I think it took about a month for me, but that was years ago when the program was smaller and there were less reviewers.
