How do you know when it's time to request or you are eligible for a new monthly assignment? I'm still unclear. Is it a month from your previous one or the next calendar month?

You can check by trying to request an item.
When you select "request assignment," as you normally would, you'll see one of two things.
Free Assignment: means you can request a monthly assignment.
Free Assignment "you will be able to request assignments on or after x date (i'm paraphrasing, but this is it).": It will tell you when you can request an assignment.
