How do you feel about reviewing books?

Contributor: Septimus Septimus
I was just wondering how you guys felt about reviewing books?

I've done one myself and enjoyed it (for Dorion Solot and Marshal Miller's fabulous I Love Female Orgasm. But I don't tend to buy a lot of books, or rely as much on the reviews when I do.

When I'm looking to invest in a new vibe, I devour every review out there. I want to know all of the specs, how much power it has, is it waterproof, etc. But when I want to get a new book, I usually just grab whatever looks interesting (right now I've got my eye on The Feminist Porn Book).

So what do you guys think, is it even worth it to review a book? Do you bother to read the reviews when making your selections?

I like to read the reviews for the books but I will still end up purchasing whatever I feel like reading regardless of someone's opinion on the content.

I have done quite a few book reviews for EF and I find them the easiest to write! I have gotten many questions about books so I do think it is helpful to write a brief review about a book bought here at the site...or offered here. Sometimes the reviews are accurate and have saved me from spending money on tripe or dangerous advice type books. I never invested in that God awful 50 shades series based on the reviews posted here...and after trying to slog through just the first few chapters of the first book I am so glad I did read the reviews!
I reviewed a book about threesomes a while back that actually advised smoking a joint and drinking a stiff one if you were feeling shy or scared to go off with a couple guys...ummm WHA???~!?? So sometimes the reviews can actually help us to educate as well as warn people away from really bad books.

I review books on my blog, so it feels a lot easier for me to write a book review.

I did a review for the 50 shades of gray books and hated it. I thought they were harder to write. While I love to read I don't think reviewing them is for me.

I love reviewing books. It's such a different style, and it's different even among kinds (short stories, novels, instructional). I think book reviews are definitely worth reading, no matter what type of book - you get a feel for what the book has to offer, and an idea if it's something you'd be interested in reading for yourself.

I enjoy doing it though I find it harder to do than toy reviews.

I have found that books seem to be a lot easier for me to review, though I think a lot of that comes from the fact that I am a big reader.

I have been considering writing a review for a couple of the ones that I have, but I am really bad about finishing books. I will start reading one, then start another and never finish either of them. I would have to sit down and read just one at a time and take notes of things as I go (which isn't a bad idea as the ones I have are more educational).

As far as reading reviews for books goes, I do read them as well as ask around with people I know but it is so subjective that I try to have an open mind and go with a average of all of the input I get.

I like buying them in person so that I can actually read the back cover and flip through it before I buy.

I don't mind writing reviews on the books I've bought from here. I try to be informative rather than base my review on my opinion. I will include it, but most of the review is about what the book actually contains.
