#Roundup - May 29th edition

Contributor: Ansley Ansley

Hello! I have two announcements I need to make about the Weekly Roundup.

The first is, the Roundup will be on hiatus for the next two weeks. There will not be a roundup posted on June 1st, or June 8th.

During these two weeks of downtime, I would like you all to brain storm some ways to spruce it up, make it more interesting, or offer ideas on why you don't think it's necessary in the first place. The following Monday, the 11th, I will compile your suggestions and create a poll for you all to give your honest feedback on this particular event.

For those who are unfamiliar, you can check out past editions here -
Weekly Roundups from the Past.

Annnnd go!

I LOVE the round ups, they're the most fun weekly thread for me. They highlight the contests, they highlight a few important reviews that came out that week, they talk about how many reviews were published, and they even have a fun game! While they aren't as 'necessary' as the threads that tell us what has been added to Eden or the Rumbles, I would be very upset if they didn't exist anymore.

It came to my attention that there was um...a slight conflict of interest between the Roundup and the Chronicle. So, I'm interested to hear what you all have to say on the matter.

In my opion the Eden Community Chronicle seems to be more fun facts, happeings from the past month, anouncments, and more. The Weekly Roundup is more of what has happened last week with reviews and what is to come for the week.

Although, they may seem to over lap a bit, I really think the Chronicle is geared more twords community users in genral. While on the other hand, the Roundup is geared more twords the active reviewers with in the community.

I love them both and would be disapointed to see iether one dicontinued.

I agree completely!

If either of them is done away with I might have to break out a cherry scented double dong and dole out some punishement...just sayin.

Last week was the first time I've ever helped compile the reviews to go into the roundup, and I must say that was so much fun and I'd love to do it again. I would hate to have it go away. I love reading the roundup every week. I especially like seeing how many reviews have been done for the week.

I guess I should clarify something here really quick - the elements of the roundup would not go away. Like the review count, the club info, it would just be rearranged.

ya, you just got scared about a double dong lashing.

Honestly though, I can see where the two may conflict and all. I just don't see them being the same thing. One is a weekly thread showcasing some great review and the happenings for the week. For me it is a great way to see things I may have missed like contest and such. Without it, it is possible I may have missed some great happenings. With the Chronicles we get much more than just weekly type stuff. Plus it's a great way for us to check back on things we may have forgot about.

But, no one ever comments on the Chronicle...and to be honest, it's a lot of work to put together for little to no activity on the thread. When I asked for how to make things more interesting...

I don't know...that's why I'm asking you guys. In my mind, it's a masterpiece, you know?

hmmm...I see where your coming from. Much like a review I put a lot into that gets little response or votes, it can be frustration for sure.

I read them both.

And I enjoy them both equally!!!

For me, I just don't always reply as I all I'd say is what everyone else is already saying, and I don't think it really necessary to repeat, repeat, repeat. But that is me.

I don't know if you know this Stormy Lady, but there have been a few times when the Chronicle has inspired me to do a lesson at work, and then I must rearrange my syllabus because the new lesson is much more interesting.

The Weekly Round-up, I love it as well. Again, I might not always comment, but I do love how I try to guess which reviews are for fancy knickers and which ones for toys and body stuff. That's my little game I play. Anyone else do that? (I'm actually pretty good at it!!!)

If you are looking for ways to attract more readers and more participation and more pimpage... at the moment the blogging program has gone the way of the doodah (not a typo, just have not heard this word spoken or seen it read in an age!!!), why not incorporate something with the blogs? Like nominate your favourite EF blog post that someone else has written in the past week?

In the Chronicle, there could also be a question that people answer, and a random number post wins it or pick a random person and let them pick their favourite reply.

These don't have to be for gift cards or what not, but someone like me who just feels like a robot repeating what had already been said, it would be more thought worthy. And then in my case, I'd be commenting like a fiend!!!

oh yeah I forgot.

There could also be a weekly round up of Forum Posts. Where say two or three threads get nominated for the weekly roundup.

For the Roundup, I think it would be interesting if the reviews were from categories. Like one lingerie, one vibrator, one male toy, one dildo, and one 'other' perhaps? And I agree with Woman that a game or question or contest would add to the interactive element in the Chronicle. Giving out an award of a gift card or even of just a bundle of points would encourage more participation, but people play forum games all the time without any prizes at all.

Oooh, how about a caption contest? Caption contests are always fun!

I agree with this. While they do have some things in common, taking away one or the other would leave a huge chunk out! Unless we somehow manage to combine the two into one massive post! Though I like the way they are organized now, making it far less confusing! Plus, depending on whether you are a reviewer or just a regular community member, you may only have an interest in one or the other.

Interesting...

Ok, so I've read all the responses so far. I tried doing a couple of games in the Chronicle but I obviously didn't hit the sweet spot. Caption contests are kinda cool, I think the downside of the Chronicle games is you have to wait a month to find out if you won/what the answer is, right?

Would you all be willing to play a small weekly game/take a quiz on the content in the Chronicle for a chance at a $5 or $10 gift card?

And then say a weekly thread for the roundup reviews and the calendar info/contest announcements?

you could do specific reviews each week. like one week lingerie and next week DVDs ect...

That sounds like a better idea! One reason I don't pay as much attention to the Chronicle is simply that it's a lot longer than the Roundup. The roundup I can look over in like two minutes, guess a toy, see if I didn't read any of the submitted reviews, and leave a response.

The Chronicle takes me at least 10 minutes to read over, and it's just not as 'short and sweet' as the Roundup. That's why I personally tend to overlook it. There's not anything that can be changed about it, but that's just my two cents. If there was a weekly quiz I think that it would encourage more people to read it!

I guess I have been living under a rock because I am only vaguely aware of the weekly roundup and have no idea what the chronicle is. Make whatever changes you want, and I promise to check them out.

I hate to think a reward has to be offered for folks to read it but that may be what you have to do. I think a small reward would be fine, even if folks have to wait a few weeks to see if they won.

Maybe switching the name that toy contest to the Chronicles would be a good idea, make it super hard to start off and then open the image up a little each week?

It sounds to me like a lot of people are happy with the content of both the Chronicle and the Round Up, but also feel like both are more informational posts that are valuable but not necessarily something they want or need to comment on afterward.

Informational rather than Participational posts?

Or I could be way off base. It's been known to happen.

I haven't been on Eden for that long and at the risk of sounding like a newbie...I didn't even know there was a Chronicle

Is it posted someplace obvious and I'm just missing it? I always see when a new Rumble or Roundup is posted, but I don't remember ever seeing the Chronicle. Is it possible more people just don't realize it's out there? It could just be me too.

You can find them all here. You know, that could be part of the problem. As they are a thread they can get pushed down pretty quick. Not to sure if they get sticky'd or not. ???

I didn't even know we had a Chronicle either. Maybe they should be stickied up in the first section like the Rumble is?

I also really like the idea of little contests - they'd bring more comments around, but I think that in combination with a forum announcement/getting the Chronicle stickied would work best. :3

Also, j/w, are the winners for last week's roundup contest still going to be announced? I'm curious as hell to know who the lucky winner is. XD
