I particularly enjoy the NJoy Pure Wand. If you are going for opening up your hole, then just about any toy that you consider appealing would work for that. However, if that toy does not have a good flared base to keep it from slipping all the way inside you... either DON'T use it or make certain that you have a lasso that won't slip off to retrieve it. I've gotten more than a few phone calls in the middle of the night from a former lover or even a friend who didn't know what to do when a toy had indeed slipped all the way in. Please Don't let that happen to you.

I would suggest that you start with some plugs so you don’t hurt yourself. I prefer realistic over smooth for the feel of having a real cock inside of me. The toys that I like a lot are Emperor and Rechargeable Thrusting Butterfly. Emperor may be a bit big for a beginner, but it is a wild ride. The Thrusting Butterfly isn’t necessarily meant for anal play, but I love it a lot it’s good for a beginner and it will give you all the thrill of having sex with someone.

I didn't use one myself (my first anal dildo was the head of a wiffle ball bat), but for a novice, I'd suggest a starter kit with 3 to 4 graduated size dildos or plugs to train your hole gradually so you can step up to the big boys that will give you the most pleasure of anal play. Eden Fantasys has a few of those sets at very reasonable prices. Here are 3 I think would be good starters:
