Does packaging matter in your decision to buy, or not buy, a toy?

Contributor: spiced spiced
I've noticed a lot of reviews take a lot of time/space describing and critiquing the packaging. I'm curious to know if packaging matters a lot, a little, or not at all in your purchasing decisions.

Have you ever bought a toy just because you loved the packaging, or decided not to buy a toy because you didn't?

I don't really think about it...though I have seen some AWESOME packaging in a few videos that I wish I could have, but those always come with the expensive toys, and I'm a little more simplistic.

It does not affect my purchase--however, I do love the nicer and more useable storage.

It doesn't affect what I purchase but I do love reusable packaging or simplistic ones.

It doesn't affect my purchase. What I care most about is the quality and material of the toy itself.

Yes, it matters to me very much, but not in terms of pretty-ness. I just don't like tacky, nude, trashy packaging.

I started to say no, that the packaging doesn't affect my purchase decisions at all, but then I remembered that there was one toy I specifically did not buy because of the box.

It was this one. The reviews all made it sound like this would be a good toy for me, but ultimately the weird wording and cheap look of the packaging made me doubt the quality of the piece.

I hear you on that. I HATE sexually explicit, loud packaging. I almost always recycle whatever packaging a toy comes in. Sometimes, if if the packaging is just too embarrassing, I wait until late at night and stuff it into an obnoxious neighbor's recycling bin!

That's interesting and I could see myself doing that, too. Funny thing is, I don't mind if a toy just comes with no real packaging, just in a plastic bag or whatever.

And I get a little annoyed with elaborate packaging, because I can't help thinking how much less the toy would have cost without it (especially since the package is just going into my recycle bin).

But if a company goes to the trouble and expense to create a package that's obviously intended to be nice--and fails--that WOULD make me wonder about the toy itself.

I don't too much care about packaging when I buy a product, but it is kinda horrible if you pay a lot for something and the packaging is plain or you can't store the item in the package.

I get more excited if it's something I'm able to store the toy in also, but I won't NOT purchase something based on the packaging.

I've never been discouraged from buying a toy due to the packaging, but I do want toys more that have really nice packaging.

Though what is inside the packaging is the most important part about buying sex toys, if an awesome toy also has a nice package, it is more alluring to me. I personally want to buy toys that have been crafted well. A nice packaging gives me the impression that the people who designed the product liked it enough to care about its presentation and preservation.

Although, there have been a few toys that I ultimately decided not to buy based on the fact that the packaging was atrocious.

I care about the way that a company packages its toys, because I feel like the quality of the packaging reflects how the company feels about the quality of the toy. Having said that, I don't think that bad packaging would factor into my desire not to buy a toy.

If I am buying a toy from a brick and mortar store and can see the packaging, sometimes the way it's packaged will influence my decision to buy it (yay or nay). Online, though, it doesn't really matter.

I love reliable packaging, but poor packaging does not deter me from a toy I want. It's a nice3 addition to a review though as it could influence some...

I have bought a toy before just because I liked the packaging it came in...

I dont care much, though if I am buying a luxury toy I expect a bit more than a see-though plastick box. khm*Tantus*khm. Something suitable for storage.

It is somewhat of a factor for me. The thing is that in my experience, if it has really tacky packaging, it's generally not a great toy. If I see the packaging has some porn star making a duck face, I automatically skip it.

The only packages I've saved are the Pure Wand's and Pure Plug's because they are stylish and meant for storage.

I've also saved my Life's box. Everything else is gone.

Packaging rarely influences my desire to buy a toy, except in cases where the packaging doubles as particularly good storage, such as with Aneros and Njoy toys. Then I see it as an added bonus, because who doesn't like storage?
