Oh, yes. Heck, down at the bottom of the ocean, there are animals able to withstand the boiling water pumped out by super-heated vents, so it's not all that strange that some microorganisms can, as well. But as far as anal play goes, any germs ... more
Ok, I just asked about germs living with us and can be found in our bodies or could be locate on anal dildo..

I don't put butt toys in vaginas afterwards, they are dedicated butt toys. So this makes them pretty safe for solo use.

I use antibacterial soap and hot water after use but if I have been using it anally quite often then I will sterilize it before a heavy vaginal session. It isn't completely necessary, but it's just piece of mind for my sensitive vagina.

I never put a toy away unless it's been sterilized first.

I usually just use soap and water for typical use by every few weeks or so I may run my toys through the dishwater to sterilize them completely.

It depends on each partner's comfort level. The good news is that most common pathogens will be killed by boiling, but for committed pairs with non-porous toys you can usually do just fine with a thorough washing - keep in mind that's what most people do to keep their "permanently attached sex toys" clean between uses. Anal->vaginal many people like to be more sure, and boiling or bleaching works well there.

If you're sharing toys with someone who has a STI you'll want to take more care - pressure cooking is a good choice here if you don't have an autoclave.

It's almost guaranteed that a dishwasher will not sterilize, and home dishwashers probably don't even sanitize well. I recommend you avoid them because it gives people a false sense of security - if you're not comfortable with a washed toy for a reason then you should go with something that really works. Boil for 5+ minutes or use 10% bleach to sanitize, or pressure cook/autoclave/use commercial cold-sterile solutions for sterilizing.

hot water and soap is all thats needed unless you are sharing... than boil water or dish washer (and only share glass, silicone, and metal which are the only 100% safe toys)

My Mark O2 dildo gets used for both, so it gets a good boiling. Butt plugs that are never going elsewhere will only be boiled occasionally, but always get spritzed with toy sanitizer after soap and water cleaning.

I'm not sharing my toys, so anti-bacterial soap and hot water suffices. Sometimes I spray on specialist toy cleaner too.

I use soap and water/cleaners. I still live at home and wouldn't want my parents to walk in on me boiling a pot of butt plugs.

I do, but I'm kind of anal about it. Pun intended. I'm a nursing student, and I am pretty meticulous about these sort of things, even though I know in my own mind that friction, soap, and water would kill most anything.

I just wash them off, I'm the only one using it so I don't feel like I need to make it sterile.
