When you get a new dildo, do you measure it? Do you find it to be accurate as described by the manufacturer?

This poll is to see who out there measures the goods when it arrives in the mail. I am particular about size and want the "best fit" for my wife's toys, and have found that my results vary from the sizes described (this has happened on more than one occasion and manufacturer). Do you measure and more importantly, do you find any variance to the size of the item?

As part of the review process, yes we measure them. We've found some differences, usually in realistic toys, and usually in their diameters. A manufacturer may say 1.5" (for example) but the heads are often larger than that.

I measure, and sometimes it's off slightly, but I haven't seen any notable discrepancies yet.

I agree with the others. I measure for my reviews, and either they're correct or just slightly off.

One of the reasons I do it is my husband doesn't realize how large he is. He usually thinks the insertables we buy are larger than him, and they aren't! I measure them to show him how big they are.

Weird, so many guys brag about their size and they are average, normal and regular sized. This guy is big (OK huge) and he doesn't really believe it. He's looking at it from a different angle than I am, I think. He's never seen that damn thing coming at him, either.

I haven't done a review for an insertable dil or vibrator yet, but I would measure one for that too.

We usually only measure toys when we are writing a review on them, but yes, we have found some discrepancies as well.

I don't usually unless it looks way off. Maybe I should start...

I only measure the toy if I am going to review it. If I am using it just in my personal collection I don't bother, unless like other have said - it looks WAY off.

Due to buying from smaller companies I find their measurements not always accurate, so yes, i measure.

Nope never have, but I might now that I'm doing reviews about them. I had actually never thought about it before!

I measure occasionally, find small differences occasionally, but usually things are pretty close to being right on when I use the EF specs rather than the manufacturers.

I never have actually measured a toy. But I guess if it seemed off I might check.

EF seems to be pretty close. The small differences become much more noticeable with larger toys that are at your limit...

A big problem is how you calculate width/circumference. Many toys are not perfect circles, and a number of them have curves. If you measure diameter there can be two different diameters, and if you measure either diameter or circumference you can be off because of your cross section being not square to the axis.

I do measure mine because I'm a total perfectionist nerd that way. I find that the given measurements occasionally slightly vary from what I discover.

As for measuring diameter, I usually measure at the thickest part be it a curve or the shaft.

Awww that's sweet! Same with us though. Sigel doesn't have any emotional hangups about his "equiptment" but sometimes he gets a little intimidated by some of my toys LOL. Arch also has the same level of confidence. OMG funny story:
When I was just talking to him, we had never even sent pics to each other. We were just describing ourselves and I told him that I have breast dysmorphia (one breast is noticeably larger than the other) and he was describing himself. SO he pauses for a second and says, "Well I'm six feet tall so I guess I should be a bit above average, penis size wise. I mean it's ok...it's not like it will scare small children!" I spit my coffee and laughed till I cried! Then he sent me a pic and I knew I had to meet this...ummm guy. Naw seriously I loved him from the moment I first heard his voice, pretty much the ame thing that happened with Sigel and I.

I measure my toys for my reviews and I've found a few discrepancies between the box, EF and actual measurements but nothing that would cause me to scream about truth in advertising. EF is usually pretty close on their descriptions.

I have only bought 2 dildos since joining EF. I have acutally ordered a total of 3, but returned one because it measured 1/4 inch more than advertised. That makes a total of 2 that were 1/4 inch more than reported. I use a cloth tailors measuring tape and move along the whole shaft.

Now when choosing a toy I will account for the possibility that it may be a fraction larger. It also depends upon where you are measuring, so far it seems that just under the head will be the thickest portion.

I do measure them - and find that most times they match the description.

I measure them, and find that they're usually close-ish (within half an inch, definitely), but I do more detailed measurements, like how wide the base is, how wide the toy is at various points, how big bulges are, how long a particular section is, etc, so that it's a bit more comprehensive of a view, and not just one measurement for the entire thing.

I'm most careful about glass toys, since there seems to be a lot a variety from piece to piece. Other than that, I'll only measure toys myself if the toy description seems off to me.

I have found slight discrepancies, but not enough to really make much difference.

I usually don't measure them, but I have had a few that seemed quite "off" but I guess that all has to do with where and how they measure. Diameter/circumference seems to be the one that is the most elusive for me.

I've measured a few things. The diameter on the Passion Wave is wrong, for example.
