I personally don't like firm insertable toys! Stuff like glass, wood, hard plastic and so on seem so unappealing to me, I want something softer, that will bend and shape to my body. For anal use, I'm more open to firm toys. Vaginally, it's uncomfortable to me, maybe because one of the toys I have is rather large, AND hard plastic, which almost hurts to use even though I can comfortably use larger soft toys. However I noticed that a LOT of people on EF love hard insertable toys, why? Maybe someone can change my opinion of them, please recommend good products if you know any
Firm vs Soft insertable toys

I like the firm pressure I get from hard toys. I also love texture and hard toys intensify that.

On the whole I prefer toys with some squish to them, especially when I start losing muscle control when I get close to orgasm (I have rammed myself in the cervix once or twice with glass toys - ow!) but I've got a couple of firm toys that I don't mind using vaginally.
Curved toys used in a rocking motion are less likely to cause me trouble. In particular, the firmness of the Bent Graduate (glass) allows for really strong G-spot stimulation, which I think feels great. The Ella (firm silicone) has a similar effect, though not quite as extreme due to a broader G-spot head and more flexible neck. I do like the ridge along the top of the Ella's thrusting end because it's very stimulating to the vaginal opening without being too extreme, and since it's lighter than glass it's much less likely to hurt my cervix if I poke it accidentally.

I like hard toys like glass and I like soft toys like silicone. Just depends on my mood.

I haven't tried many, but so far I've found that it really only does anything for me during solo use if I get a bit of pressure to the g-spot - so I need something firm enough to do that.
I haven't tried a glass toy yet, but would like to.

Slickdick
I like a firm toy that still can bend. I find silicone to be the best for me!

I really like both depending on the shape and girth.

I love firm toys (think glass) for putting pressure on my g-spot. Like Rin, I like them for rocking, not so much thrusting. I prefer something with give to thrust.

My wife likes both. On the hard side we have many glass toys + the Alumina Flow, Pure Wand and Eleven. On the soft side she adores Vixskin and O2 - not the older harder formulations of silicone.

I love both.

For inserting anally and leaving in place, such as an anal plug or prostate, I do enjoy harder materials; more so than softer ones with a few exceptions (such as the surprisingly comfy A-bomb).
For thrusting, however, soft materials all the way, especially dual density silicone. I don't want to accidentally injure my insides if I get overzealous, and a little squish makes it feel more natural.

Variety is a lovely thing.

I like firmer toys, but they also tend to make me sore. I prefer softer toys with some give. I am really fond of UR3 since it has a little variety with firmness. Some are firmer with a little give and others are soft enough to be floppy. I like it both ways, but floppy ensures I won't get sore.

All my toys are either firm or hard, squishy toys are hard to insert and difficult to stay put.
02/18/2012
Firm is good as long as it has a shape, some curve and taper. Straight, cylinder shaped toys don't do it for me. In firm toys I need a shape that fits my body well.

im used to having something hard, and im not a idiot when it comes to thrusting them, i actually take my time so hard works for me

My GF loves glass and stainless steel.

mostly hard toys except for the realistic dongs.

I like how easy it is to get through insertion with hard toys, but soft still wins for me. I like being able to go rough with toys without worrying too much about damaging myself.

The larger hard toy I have is a "realistic" dong, maybe that's why I don't like it. It has a very pronounced head and veins, which makes it pretty uncomfortable when it has NO give. With everyone saying how much they like hard toys for gspot/pspot stim, I'm curious about a smooth tapered toy now.

Same, I like being rough with myself and my boyfriend, hard toys can cause "ouches" pretty easily. And if I move wrong, the top of my opening (pubic bone) hurts terribly bad when crushed against a hard toy hahaha.

I love the cold feel of my glass toy. But I agree with you, something very firm but not stiff and hard....lol referring to toys only....it can be uncomofrtbale to move around.

I find that hard toys can give a much more intense 'stretching' sensation if they are large, and they also work well to stimulate the g-spot. However I feel that thinner hard toys tend to be 'pokey' and unpleasant.

The harder the better in my opinion. I have a difficult time getting off from a soft toy.

I like glass toys because of the smooth non-stickiness, and because I like cold sometimes. I am afraid of glass with one big curve (what if it doesn't fit right?) and wood toys seem totally unappealing (though I'm sure that could change if I met the right one).

I much prefer hard toys!
For anal, unless something's at least an inch and a half across, it needs to be firm or I have a hard time inserting it.
And for vaginal... how is something supposed to stimulate me if I'm stronger than it is? Soft toys just feel like blah... play dough or something.
