Girth and length are important - but optimums mean that bigger or longer isn't always better. Most toy buyers know their limits but will experiment with somewhat larger toys. For my girl 1.75" x 7" is 'optimal'. Materials matter as well - with harder toys sometimes feeling larger that soft toys of a similar size.

I can't handle a lot of girth and know my limits on length because I know if it's too long then it's going to start hitting on bones, and I don't want that.

Both are important, but for me girth is more important. That's usually the first measurement I look at while shopping.

You can only go so deep in a vagina, the max I can take is about 7in, I care a lot more about girth.
