For some reason I hear a lot of people saying that wood isn't safe to use by I have yet to see anything to prove this point. They claim it's the coating they use on the wood or that wood absorbs bacteria. Is this true?

Wood has a body safety rating of a 9, so I would say that it is safe. It does absorb liquid, but I have never heard it absorbs bacteria. That would be a good thing to google.

The only wood toys I know much about are Nob Essence, and they use a waterproof coating that is perfectly body safe. I wouldn't soak any wooden toy in liquid for long periods of time, but I think they are very safe.

Check out the NobEssence FAQ. That should answer some of your questions.

Plain old wood shouldn't be used for sex because it is super porous, and ya know, splinters. But wooden sex toys are generally sealed so that they are super smooth and nonporous.

The ones specifically made as dildos have a special coating on them. People love wood because it's extremely lightweight, yet firm.

I only own one wood toy, the Nob Essence Romp. It is easily one of my all-time favorite toys. It is sealed with a polymer finish to protect the wood, making it smooth and non-porous.
