Making Dildos?

Contributor: Kim! Kim!
So after waiting mostly patiently for the Tentacle to be in stock when I had some dildo dollars I finally managed to get one the other day. While reading the informational card from Whipspider I became all inspired and now want to go into making dildos and selling them on Etsy or something.
Of course, I really doubt that I have the time for this but I tend to get silly projects in my head often.
Has anyone ever thought about this?
Has anyone ever tried it? (Aside from the Clone-A-Willy kits, I'm curious about what materials you used for molds and where you purchased supplies and silicone. I've seen a lot of information about it but I would like to hear from people who have done it.)

P.S. I'd still totally shop on here. Besides, I love metal and wood and lots of other things. I'm just considering making silicone stuff.

If I had the skills and equipment, I'd TOTALLY make a shitload of ice-blue silicone dildos! Alas, I have no idea of where to get the materials, nor how to go about making a toy in the first place.

It's actually not that complicated to be honest.

Ill give you the basics but if you want further details ask away. I make stuff all the time with the exact same materials so it is literally the same concept me and my boyfriend have talked about this alot.

First you get clay, I prefer Le beau touche by chavant because its really soft and it wont dry out etc etc.

So you sculpt whatever it is you want your dildo to look like. Texture it how you want etc etc.

When youre done youre gonna make a mold which really depends on what your sculpture looks like. It can be stone (ultracal) or silicone (different than the kind you run your dildo in one is tin based the other is platinum based). Depending on the shape it would be a matrix, or block mold, etc. Which would really take further explain on how to set this up probably with pictures so like i said im simplifying.

Once your mold is done and cleaned. You can buy silicone (which can be expensive for kits) And they run in various grades. link Ive bought silicone from here but usually do it locally at shops.

You have to becareful when mixing it obviously you are using a catalyst so gloves, eye protection. It wont come out of your clothes. And after you mix it, the amount depends on your sculpt once again. Youre just gonna leave it over night. Than open your mold, cut any flashing, etc etc.

It isn't something thats cheap even mildly though. So it is something you really have to think about spending a lot of time and money on.

Like I said if you have more questions I am very familiar with this kind of stuff so just ask.

That could be SO fun to make your own dildos! Ooooh, think of all the different shapes and textures. I had to laugh when I read the words 'dildo dollars'.

Thank you so much! And once I sit down and seriously think this through I might just be asking you some questions!

Im trying to figure out a more accessible way to do this so it wouldnt waste money for people who are just learning. And you could work your way up. Ill keep everyone updated.

I love the idea, it seems like it'd be fun and probably could go about it the same way people make those latex Halloween masks or the prosthetic features.

I don't know where I'd start as far as designing something or making the mold.

I have some vague ideas but may just doodle some when I get bored in class.

Exactly. I know how to do that stuff and Im saying its the same thing just different materials that are safer for insertion.

If you do this start with some small things first to get a feel for how the process works and what you need to do, because the material is expensive and you can learn just as well on small things.

Very important stuff with casting: spend plenty of time making the mold really well and make sure you pour right (you might even want to invest in a vacuum molding machine to get the bubbles out). There's very little you can do to "rescue" a bad cast.

An evacuator, not to be confused with vacuuform.

I dont think an evacuator would be needed for this at all. Especially if its just a block mold or something a high pour would eliminate all air bubbles.

I laughed when I read this. I had a THING-MAKER when I was a kid. So did my hubby. They had two part metal molds and you filled them with PLASTIC GOOP. Then they went into an OPEN METAL HEATER (try selling THAT for kids today...ha, ha), and in my case, out came FLOWERS with PETALS and metal, bendable STEMS. In my hubbys case, out came SOLDIERS with internal wires so arms and legs could bend. These would have been PERFECT (if slightly larger) for making HOME MADE DILDO's. Someone should go NOSTALGIC and re-release that "toy" in a larger...ADULT ONLY form. What fun that would be. You could add in colors, textures, lights, sparkles, vibes...etc as you wished. (All sold separately, of course..ha, ha).

For those too young to remember this toy, you can google it, or probably find some old ones for sale...at a VERY high price, on eBay!!!

Oh my gosh, this just reminded me of the Creepy Crawlers that my brother had when we were little! (link) We spent so long making them!

As for the Thingmaker, I think I somehow inherited a whole bunch of flowers that someone made with theirs. I'm not sure why but looking back, it's odd. Creepy Crawlers were more or less the same thing, I think.

I've actually got one friend who's making a silicone unicorn horn dildo. She wanted one that was double ended. I can't wait to see it!
Aaaand I've got another friend who's making wooden dildos out of ~100+ year old cherry wood. They're so pretty! O.O

All you need is some modeling clay, plaster of paris, and 100% silicone caulking material. Just look up some cast & mold tutorials on youtube and you're set. It is very messy though.

This sounds like a really fun idea!! I've been wanting to try making my own ceramic dildos, but I'm not sure I want to attempt that at my pottery studio. Could be kind of awkward....but I'm very curious.

Please post pics if you end up making some out of silicone!
