As long as it is a softer material it does not matter. If it is a big toy with a rounded tip it may require a different toy for warm up but most big toys need that anyways.

When you get to the hard materials like glass and stainless it becomes a concern due to the unforgiving nature of the material. It is much easier to poke the delicate inner tissues. Still, it just means more care needs to be used which goes right along with hard materials.

definitely rounded. the anal cavity is much thinner and less elastic than the vagina, so higher risk of injury if you stick something pointy and hard in there.

I like tapered and rounded together. The taper makes it easy to find the entrance, while the rounded allows you to rock it around comfortably during insertion. Most specifically anal toys are tapered and rounded, at least the ones I have.
