Sure, why not? That's what condoms are for.
I've never done it just because I don't use condoms for any reason so I never remember to buy them but we joke about it all of the time. (I love cucumbers and eat two or three a week.)

I imagined there are some people out there that exercise veggie love regularly, but maybe I've just seen too many episodes of "Real Sex".

No, but I've used a banana before. Once unsuccessfully (it ended up just getting smushed without actually going inside me) and once successfully, although it busted open just when things were getting good

Many years ago, my husband used to work at a grocery store. There were two men and a woman who would come through his store at least once a week, every week, to purchase a large seedless cucumber and a bottle of lube. From what I've heard they always came in together and they always bought the same items every time. No idea whether anyone ever questioned them on what they were up to.
