I recommend getting something made of safe material that's easy to clean, like silicone. Fun Factory has many options that would be fun as a gift, both vibrating and not -- the Fun Factory Fly Micro, for example. Or, if you're on a budget, there are some good plastic toys, like the Waterproof Blueberry Bliss. Just read the reviews to help narrow down your options.

Vibrator since they can serve the same purpose as the other two options plus some. What ToyGeek said is good advice, plus think multi-speed and non-phallic (in case your friend is creeped out by toys that look just like dicks)

Talk with your friend and find out what she is comfortable with. Then definitely go for something bodysafe (silicone, glass, etc.)

I would go with soemthing simple to start off with that is easy maintenance and safe. My first toy was a plastic bullet. After two years it died and I started shopping around for a more traditional vibe. I'd ask her what she thinks she might like. Maybe she has a toy that doesn't work for her and you might be able to find a more suitable one. I'd check with her.

My first toy was a silver bullet and it was wonderful!

Go with a very simple vibe... something midsized and not overly complicated. Don't get some huge realistic looking dong that might scare her away and make her think you're a freak. Something like a nice classy Lelo design would be great... but they are fairly pricy so I'd look for a "budget" version that looks like them. I agree as well on the silicone option... great safe starting material for a 1st vibe.

The best would be to talk to your friend and see what see likes. If that not an options a vibrator that could be used for clitoral stimulation would be your safest bet. You would also want something body safe and not to intimidating.

Dildos are less intimidating, unless you think she would prefer a traditional vibrator. Either way, good luck to you.

My first toy was the Waterproof Raspberry Crush, so I concur with this. Good, inexpensive plastic toy - although now that I have silicone things I say go with something silicone if you can afford the bump in price. Either way, though

My first toy was a traditional vibe. I think it would be the best option because it can work as a dildo or a vibrator

Get her a somewhat small sized, safe vibrator with no frills. Just a basic one to begin with. You could always take her with you to get one, or have her help pick one out. That's what I've always done.

You had a plastic bullet last 2 years? Mine never last more than 3 months!

Try search discussions for a good first time toy, there's lots of threads about it.

I voted the vibrator, it can kinda be used as either if the right one is chosen, gives her more room for exploration.

Definetly a vibrator. And if you do not know what material they would like a vibrator can be simpler.

I bought my gf her first toy and I went with a the evolved holiday vibrator. Seemed nice and basic as a starting point to get into toys.

I'd say get a vibrating dildo, that way she can figure out what she likes for toys a bit easier.

I think a vibrator is a great first time toy! She can experiment with using it internally and externally and find out exactly what she likes.
