Depends on the guy/girl in my experience. I’ve always straight up ask or at least start the conversation by sending them photos of things Im thinking about buying.
I’ve worn everything from straps and cutouts, maid outfits, to cropped baseball t-shirts and knee high socks.
Asking for some people takes the fun out of but I think it’s worse to show up in something your partner isn’t into.

I love just about anything as a man. My wife on the other hand doesn’t like to wear anything because of insecurity. My favorite types are Crotchless teddies. I also like babydolls especially the shear see through kind.
