I like role play, but don't do it often. The first time I tried it I wore my old high school uniform and planned out the outfit but not the rest...and therefore I didn't really know what to say and ended up bursting into laughter.
If you do it, give it some thought, and don't be offended if your girl bursts out laughing...I think I might if my partner showed up in a sailor outfit, but it wouldn't stop me from tearing it right off of him...

Roleplaying is one of my favorite things to do, but it can be kind of awkward if you've never done it before. I would suggest talking about it with your partner beforehand and coming up with some rules. Like, my partner and I always use our real names and we have a safe word. That way, if we're playing as strangers we don't have to make up or remember names on the fly. We also don't have to worry about calling out the wrong name, which can kill the mood. It also helps if the one initiating the roleplay (you, in this case) comes up with a bit of a story. Often times, my partner and I will talk about this a little bit before hand, (like, we'll talk about how we can both be pirates, and maybe he'll kidnap me and I have to trade sexual favors for my freedom, or something like that) to get a vague idea. You don't want to plan it out together too much so that it seems scripted, just an idea. But as the person in control, you will probably want to get into character so that you two can have a dialogue instead of, "oh, we're just fucking like we usually do, but in costumes."
There are about a million roleplays you can do, and a lot of them require minimum costumes, you can just type in "role play" or "roleplay" into google and get a really good number of ideas.

I do not like it, but I can tell you how it works.
You basically get into character in whatever roles you choose, and then play out a scene or something of the sort.

I love it, but whenever I do it I always switch to light BDSM games, even if it has started as something quite innocent)

I think it'd be okay if you were really into it. Otherwise it'll end up awkward.

I like to just be me and I like him as him. We get heated up enough with eachother to need to pretend were other people.

My partner and I have done light role play before. Like I was lost, found my way to his home, snuck in and you get the drift! It sounds blah, but actually was steamy. We usually have more fun when were just us though, but that's mostly because there are always suprises and other things that we find more interesting. Especially in the car, on the way somewhere that takes a little while. Interstate fun is the best! We've not done role play in a long time, but I like to do surprise peek shows! That keeps him interested. Lol
