The "wet look" material is generally just supposed to look sort of like more expensive shiny materials like latex or leather (for a fraction of what the more pricey materials would cost), it just depends on your preference I guess.
My mom has one of those pieces and it really is quite shiny. It actually vaguely reminds me of skin tight wet and shiny swimsuit fabric when you're up close to the material.
