There seems to be enough cause for concern about this connection: L-Arginine is scientifically known to contribute to HSV outbreaks when ingested orally. The jury is still out on topical application. I found the info on this page very helpful for thinking about that: link

L-Arginine does not *cause* herpes. An imbalance, where Arginine is greater is greater than Lysine, creates a habitat for for herpes, at least the cold sore variety. Both naturally occur in food, and both have their own nutritional values.

Search for "Lysine Herpes" and "L-arginine herpes".

Its an amino acid found in food. It also causes vasodilitation - meaning the blood vessels relax and look more "pumped". Body builders take it as a supplement. We also use it in brain injury re-hab along with a few other supplements (like glutamine) because it hastens results of brain healing. It doesn't cause herpes or HPV or shingles, but it can increase the chances of re-activation.

Although L-Arginie may be related to outbreaks in people with the herpes simplex virus, it is also believed to be a vasodialator and contributes to blood flow and can aid with erectile dysfunction. Always talk to a doctor before using a product to help with ED. Though L-Arginine is one of the last ingredients listened in the Libido Lift lubricant so it is likely it has a very small content of this protein.

On a side note, Lysine can be bought in small tubes as an ointment at a local drug store and, for me, it's the best product for helping get rid of oral herpes (cold sores/fever blisters) faster.

Unfortunately, I can't be much help with the HSV issue.

However, for those afflicted with Epstein-Barr virus, the same increase of Lysine and decrease in L-arginine (both in food intake and supplements), has been proven effective in some and has worked well for me.
