Using lube for shaving

Contributor: WhoopieDoo WhoopieDoo
When I was in the shower this morning, and I was getting ready to shave my nethers, a thought occurred to me: The point of shaving gel is to provide lubrication between the razor and the skin. Lubrication. Hmmmmmmm. I just happened to have a bottle of Sliquid Sea in the shower. (I know water-based lubes are impractical for shower sex. I use it to help insert my menstrual cup.) I mixed it with a tiny bit of my Kama Sutra shave cream (which I never use by itself, always mix it with something and that seems to work well), and DAMN if it wasn't the most comfortable junk shave I've ever had. A spritz of cold water and a spray of after shave protection mist (I have VERY sensitive skin) and I think it's the first time that I've had NO irritation after shaving!

Does anyone else here use lube to shave?

I've never used lubricant to shave but that's because I never had really thought about it before. That's really awesome it worked so well for you though. I'm going to have to try and remember this!

I will have to try it. Smart idea! I recently switched from womens razors to mens on the advice of someone on these boards. That worked out great!

I have heard of doing this. I think silicone lubes would be ideal for this.

Thanks for sharing the idea!

btw: "most comfortable junk shave" is my phrase for the day now.

I am honored that I could provide you with a "phrase for the day."

That being said, it seems like silicone lubes would rock except I think they would gunk up the razor......then again, I don't have any silicone lube laying around to test that theory.

I have used silicone lube before and it worked well! I think you are right about the gunk though. I have to rinse the razor more frequently.

No. I think it would be too messy with the razor. I only feel comfortable using shave cream and gel. I once tried hair conditioner because I saw it mentioned in a magazine....it made the tub SO slippery, never again.

I usually use shampoo (my shampoo seems to work better for shaving than my conditioner), but I'm glad I tried the lube on a whim.

I'm still trying to find a way to avoid razor bumpies and ingrown hairs. Yay for yet another thing to try!

Seems logical, especially in that area. It might be a good use for the cheap drugstore lube I never use, since its stickiness could be washed off immediately in the shower anyway. Thanks for the tip!

I'm afraid of getting confused and using shaving cream as lube.

I tried silicone lube for shaving (my face) and didn't like it as well as conditioner, which is what I usually use.
