Silicone. It's flexible but super-safe. I like glass and metal pretty well, but they're not for everyone (I myself mainly enjoy them for anal).

Silicone feels the best, but my favorite is the hitachi wand,it kicks ass.

Starting out silicone is great. In fact I would recommend the newer soft silicone formulations like the O2 and VixSkin lines.

As your tastes mature you should take a look at glass and metal - we love them.
