If using it together, I think the ice would be best. I have an older Wonderwave clear, and my wife prefers I use that one rather then one of my others which are not clear,,,,she likes to watch! I really like the Flight for its texture, but it depends who's going to be cleaning it. The clear material that the Flight and Ice inserts are made of gets really sticky when you wash it, so you need to cover it in cornstarch after it dries which can be a hassle. If you're going to wash it for him afterwards and don't mind the extra effort then go for it. If you expect him to wash it and know that he's lazy then I'd go for a different one.
