For cleaning, I use the toy cleaner my store sells. Comes in a spray bottle, easy peasy. Depending on the shape of the toy, I'll either cover the buttons with my fingers and wash the underside (what I do for my Lelo Siri) or wipe it down with a wet cloth instead of holding it under a running tap. And then it'll go onto a separate towel to dry, to prevent another toy from dripping on it.
If the toy says to stick with water-based lubes, stick with water-based lubes. It's usually due to chemical interactions between the lube and toy material, but I have recommended customers stick to water-based lubes for non-waterproof toys for ease o0f cleaning.
I used condoms on silicone toys when I want to use silicone lubes; when I want to use a toy I can't sterilize anally, or when I can't sterilize my silicone toys between anal and vaginal use; and sometimes when I just don't feel like cleaning my toys.
