Wood is a porous material isn't it? So even coated and sealed, I don't get why it ranks so high.

We have a few wood toys from Nob Essence. They are coated and sealed. This makes them nonporous,

I was wondering that as well. It must be the coating, but then it is unclear whether the coating itself is safe.
