Advices for a good start

Contributor: I'm a beauty I'm a beauty
Hi! I'm trying to start a "toy box". Right now the only thing my husband and I have is one bad lube. What should I get for my "starter kit"? I'm overwhelmed by all the options!

So, may I ask you to help me with some advices for a good start (solo fun is included)?

Hitachi Magic Wand would be your best bet.
Believe a grandma that have seen too much in this life.

My dear, you should definitely try a vibrating cock ring together with your hubby.
As for your "solo fun" I'd recommend you try a rabbit vibrator. Delicious.

It's true! Everyone seems to really be enjoying the hitachi and there are several different attachments you can get for it as well. I would also recommend the xtreme pack g spot bullet vibe and as far as lubes go, I've personally tried the wet heating massage lotion in watermelon and really like it. There are rave reviews on the system h20 lubricant and it is also flavored. I hope to try it soon! Then there is maximus which is unflavored but seems to be quite the favorite! So, I would suggest getting a better lube! =)

There's some great advice in here, I add my vote that the Hitachi is a great toy for a lady's toy box as well as a rabbit vibe - consider the Decadent Indulgence or the Rabbit Pearl here. For a vibrating cock ring maybe consider the Tickling Tongue Ring or the Buzz Buddies Pleasure Ring. I would also suggest a nice dildo like the Raquel or the Niagara. For lubes, get a nice water based lube like Maximus (thicker) or Liquid Silk (thinner) and maybe a silicone based lube of some kind. All of that would get a toy box off to a great start.

Waterproof Turbo Glider Blueberry. One of the best vibes EVER, and well under $20!

Definitely pick up a better lube. I'd vote for Maximus and System Jo H2O flavored. Those are both water based and safe with all toys. A good silicone lube for water play would be good too, I'd suggest Pink or Eros.

The Hitachi is a must. It works great for back and muscle massage as well as awesome clitoral stimulation. There are some really great attachments for it also, so you could pop an attachment on and have a super strong G-spot and clitoral vibe. The G-pod and Tri-pod both sound awesome, sadly I haven't gotten to try them yet, but I believe there are some pretty good reviews for them.

A staple for me is a good bullet or egg style vibe. They are little and strong, can be used for foreplay, are small enough to not interfere too much during sex, and they are great for solo play as well. I loved my Golden Nugget until it died on me, and I have also been enjoying my Xtreme Pack g-spot vibe and Daisy vibe. They are all really good choices.

A cock ring is good too. The stretchy ones will usually fit a good variety of sizes and some include a vibrating bullet for the clit. I have the Tickling Tongue ring and both my husband and I love it. It is actually long enough to reach the clit and it is stretchy enough to be comfortable for him and add more pleasure for both of us.

Jimbo Jones gave some great suggestions on Dildos. I would suggest sticking to silicone because of them being so hygienic and easy to care for. I have a plain looking Perk and the Lone Star which is more girthy but is made from VixSkin (same as the Raquel). I'd suggest you look at lentgh and girth and pick something that looks good to you. Some people love ridges, some people hate 'em.

Those are my recommendations. Water based lube for out of water play, silicone based lube for tub/shower/pool play, the Hitachi, a bullet vibe, cock ring, and a good dildo. A Rabbit style vibe would be a good addition too. I hope you and your husband end up loving whatever you decide to go with!

Thank you so much. I really appreciate your help.

There's still something more I'd like to ask you, how about the expensive and "glamorous" toys (Gigi, Delicious, Little Chroma, Elise, Liv, etc.)? They cost quite a bunch and I must believe they are really worth that, aren't they?

Gigi is definitely worth it, especially if you're into g-spot stimulation or wanting to start exploring your g-spot. Delight (I couldn't find a "Delicious") is DEFINITELY worth it--if it lines up properly with your anatomy, it's one of the most mind-blowing vibes I've found! I was disappointed in the Little Chroma; it is indeed very small and only has one speed of fairly weak vibrations. It's more of a tease than anything. Iris is worthwhile for its dual motors. And most quality glass toys are great investments. I personally recommend the Gold Fumed Rocky Road--amazing! It's also hard to go wrong with stainless steel toys like the Pure Wand or Fun Wand. And the wooden Dual-Use S-Shape is amazing as well.

So I would probably say that yes, MOST of my high-end toys are worth the cost. The Little Chroma, unfortunately, isn't one of them, though.

Yes, follow-up to my own post, sorry!

Still, before investing in any higher end toys, I'd recommend starting with a few highly recommended normal toys, like the Xtreme Pack G-Spot Bullet and (my recommendation) the Turbo Glider Blueberry, I DEFINITELY echo Jimbo in recommending the Decadent Indulgence or Rabbit Pearl as a first rabbit vibe, and the Hitachi. You'd be coming in at right around $200 for all of these with a good lube. Try them, see what you like, THEN start looking into the toys that are more of an investment. Yes, most of them ARE worth it, but know what you like before you start your selection.

Ok, I'll shut up now.

Wow!!! Dame Demi you're Damn good, I must say.
Thanks once again for your suggestion and recommendations. Some of your advices are worthier than hundreds of toys I must believe.

I think I'll call it a day and start digging the site for what you have recommended. Otherwise, any other suggestions?

I really think DD has you pretty much covered on fantastic advice! I love her! I would also recommend trying to stick with silicone toys. Just wanted to throw that in there.... Most of the high end toys such as toys by lelo are silicone which is part of the appeal of them. Silicone is non porous and can be steralized so it can also be shared. I hope you find some fantastic toys to fit your needs and have fun doing so!

What can I say, I have no life!

Oggins is right, silicone is definitely your best bet for toys, though I didn't actually recommend anything yet that is silicone. The Xtreme and Blueberry are both hard plastic and fairly sanitary. The Decadent Indulgence I believe they are now making in TPR Silicone, so no phthalates. Covering with a condom is a good idea, especially if you might be sharing. I was just trying to give a good assortment of basic toys that would give you an idea of the variety of what's available without making any huge investments until you know what you like (well, besides the rabbits, but I think they're worth spending a little more on just to make sure they actually WORK!). Good luck!

And thanks, Oggins! The love is mutual!

Other than these (really good) basic general ideas... are there specific activities you're interested in trying and looking for toys for?

Just a note on the decadent indulgence. I'm still waiting for the "official confirmation" that it is actually tpr silicone. I have links to pictures listed under comments on my review so you can see the box says it is tpr silicone but.....it's still up in the air I guess......*shrugs shoulders*

We're open to everything. Any ideas on female domination or BDSM play in general?

First, a disclaimer: I'm hardly the BDSM expert on here!

One thing I've noticed about BDSM is it can be very inexpensive if you use everyday objects (rope, clothespins, belts, duct tape & saran wrap), or it can grow VERY expensive VERY quickly if you're not careful. The thing about BDSM gear is that you can't very well re-sell it at a garage sale if you decide it is not for you! My (very general) advice is to evaluate your level of experience with it, first. If you're not yet sure it's something you're going to like, try a few decent quality beginner's kits that include everything you need to get started before investing in the padded leather cuffs or $150 leather harness with the $150 dildo. On the plus side, if it IS something you can enjoy, it's one area that's easy to upgrade piece-by-piece.

Yeah, I guess you're right about the garage sale. (lol)
Ok, that was quite informative and relevant. Thank you very much indeed DD.

Have a great weekend everybody!

My personal recommendations for a complete starter's toy box:

+ a powerful, reliable, waterproof traditional vibe, like the turbo glider.
+ a really good bullet vibe, like the xtreme pack.
+ a dildo: glass or silicone, depending on what you need. I'd recommend the rainbow nubby.
+ a cockring--stretchy or adjustable if you've never used one before!
+ a dual action vibe; I'd recommend one of the better rabbit vibes.
+ at least 1 lubricant, preferably water-based so it will work with all toys.
+ toy cleaner.
+ batteries.
+ condoms (if you use them).

If you're in to more fetishy stuff, a good harness and some cuffs are a must! I'd also recommend a well-made set of anal beads if you're in to anal. A lot of people are recommending the Hitachi, but I don't know if an electrical vibe is a must-have for a beginner. I've used electric vibes, but I personally don't own one, and I've been using toys for a good while now.

When we started out, we went with a kit that has a variety of items. Although they aren't the best in quality, it will give you a good idea of what you like and don't, then invest in the ones you really like by getting "better" products. Everyone has their own favorites but the above ideas all sound great!
