Importance of cleaning toys

Contributor: Lioncub Lioncub
I need some help explaining to a friend how important it is to clean your toys after each use, especially the ones used anally. She will use a toy and then put it on the floor by her bed and leave it until she is ready to use it again. The pets she owns have access to it there as well. I have tried to explain to her how to clean them, given her a pack of wipes, tried to tell her of the germs they can harbour and nothing has worked. I'm hoping someone here has other ideas.

Maybe she will start to care after her uncleanliness causes her some problems? You can't really do anything other than inform her and if you've done so already than you've done what you can. Its up to her to be responsible for herself and if she doesn't perhaps the consequences of her actions will help change her mind.

Wow. She might only comprehend the importance of cleaning her toys after she gives herself a nasty infection. Doesn't sound like there's anything you can really do except give her a "I told you so".

Oooof. Good luck. Hopefully if she gets a repercussion it's not too bad.

Oh that's bad! You can seriously get infections and not to mention the fact that the beloved toys can get ruined from the icky on them. It can ruin the finish and such.

Ugh, that sounds terrible. At least she could wipe them down and clean them properly the next day or something. This sounds like an infection waiting to happen.

Wow that's unfortunate. Seeing that you've already tried informing her it looks like the next unfortunate step is her getting some kind of infection, hopefully it doesn't have to come to that.
And like LessPlastix said ' Its up to her to be responsible for herself'

Yikes...that's really gross and unhealthy.
Like most everyone has said here: you unfortunately can't do more than just explain it to her. This is one of those "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink" scenarios.
Maybe your doctor has some infection stories he/she can pass along to your friend?
Hopefully she'll get a clue that this is important before she gets a terrible infection.

Well maybe your friend needs to understand the types of infections a person can get when toys are not cleaned properly and see the bacteria that can and well grow. Show them pictures maybe that will help.

Pets that like to venture outdoors can bring parasites such as hookworms, tapeworms, roundworm, etc. into the house, just imagine her pets licking or pawing on her toys...especially her anal toys!!!

There is no *barf* face on here so I can't use that one. I literally got icky feeling to my stomach reading that. Honestly though there isn't really anything you can do, you suggested and informed her that they needed to be cleaned. She has to be the one to decide whether she wants to clean them or not. If she reads the inserts that come with a lot of toys it says to clean before and after each use. Then again a lot of companies don't include care instructions with the toys. I just hope she doesn't end up with a horrible infection.

Whooooa. That's not okay. It's just a matter of time before an infection happens.

UPDATE: I showed her this thread and she simply stated that no one here is an expert and she is fine. Called me yesterday and she is in the hospital for a bacterial infection and severe dehydration. Might not be related but not a chance I am willing to take. PLEASE EVERYONE CLEAN YOUR TOYS!

Oh wow well if it is unrelated or related hopefully she takes the hint and advice. That is scary I really hope that she is okay!!!! While we may NOT be experts it is kinda common sense to NOT insert dirty items into your body.
