Leather/metal buckle care

Contributor: Cock Wrangler Cock Wrangler
I've noticed before on Aslan leather care info that they recommend applying a coat of clear nail polish to metal parts of harnesses, handcuffs, etc.

Has anyone done this? Does it work, does it look weird, does the nail polish chip off... basically I want to know everything about that experience. If it does work, I'm about to go to town on my leather stuff (and boot buckles too!).

Well, I've used clear nail polish on cheap rings before because it was supposed to keep it from turning my finger green...not the same thing I know but, it didn't work for that. I would imagine it would chip off but, it might possibly help keep them from getting scratched some before it does all chip off. As far as looking weird.....I had to be really careful to put an even, dropless coat on it or it would dry with funny little blobs.... Maybe this helps some anyway...

I don't really know.....I guess it wore off really fast or something because my finger still turned green the same day I coated it. =P That was when I was younger and couldn't afford "real" rings so, I pretended to have real ones. =P

Apply base coat clear nail polish, it will protect the metal from oxidizing from contact with air and moisture.
