I use condoms with all my toys that contain Phthalates for my partner's and my health. We are fluid bonded, so we dont' use condoms for safe sex reasons between ourselves but that would be another huge reason to use condoms on any toys that are switching between partners unless the toy can be sterilized and you plan on boiling it between partners. many people also use condoms on any toy that is going to be used in anal play for easy clean up in addition to keeping porous toys clean. so really you use condoms on pretty much any toy that you feel fits into any of those categories. butt plugs, dongs, vibes, rabbits (it can be done! just use a latex glove), anything coming into contact with the bodily fluids of different people or if its materials aren't the safest.
Our go-to condom is the unlubricated Trojan because we prefer to supply our own lube so we are comfortable with the ingredients and we occasional use condoms to cover up things we don't want getting wet. since there are no permanently attached cocks in the house, our only criteria for a good toy condom is no lube and holding up under play and our Trojans have been good for that.
Plus sometimes with strap on sex it's wicked hot to add that extra bit of realism in putting on a condom
