I try to always take the batteries out even when i know I will be using it soon, do you guys take this precaution as well?

Nope, never. I have all rechargeable batteries (AA and AAA) so leaving them isn't a biggie for me because even if they are drained, I can just pop them in the charger. But they rarely go without use long enough to drain....

I do. I'm too cheap to waste batteries and don't want them running in my toy chest.
