Yeah I've seen quite a few pictures online from collections and such but haven't seen many sold. Some can be seen as more like "help aids" than things that were used for pleasure.

I watched a documentary a few years ago---scary, scary looking devices!! I am just glad of the improvement in that category!!!!

We studied them in some of my psychology classes, because they were used to old-timey shrinks treat hysteria in women. I definitely agree with the fact that some of them are pretty scary looking, but I guess that since the only reason that they were invented was to save the doctors the effort of giving women pelvic massages by hand, they probably didn't have a visual appeal in mind.

They certainly look scary! It's funny how it all came about really.
Like Surreptitious said, it was originally used to treat hysteria in women. It was known to be more common in virgins and widows than in married women. That should have been the first clue right there. Vibrators and pelvic massages weren't a cure, they would only hold the women off temporarily. Again, another clue perhaps? I think the real problem was just too much sexual tension built up!

Well damn I have not seen any and I am about to go do a search now. Should be interesting to see how scary these things are.

Yes, I've seen them. Some of them are ridiculous looking!

Yep. They're pretty interesting!

I checked them out afterwards and am shocked that some were actually made by Hamilton Beach. They are really freaky looking though I would not even dare to use one.

Yes! They are soo neat! They have definitely come a long way in the vibrator department since back in the day. I remember seeing the first vibrator sold for home-use & was like "holy crap!" I am even more thankful for my small, rechargeable vibes now! Lol. It is all very interesting though.
