On this date in 1969,Jon H. Tavel of Encino, California received a U.S. Patent for his invention, a cordless electric vibrator. The phallic shaped device can be held in one hand and applied to any part of the body without being connected to a separate source of electricity. “The vibrator may be selectively operated at low or high speed, as desired by the user”. Plug in vibrators have been available since the late 1800s.
