Vibrators and dishwashers...

Contributor: Rin (aka Nire) Rin (aka Nire)
I'm getting ready to do a follow-up review on a vibrator, and in the original I stated that, while I wasn't 100% sure, putting it in the dishwasher might be okay, since it was made of silicone and thick, sturdy plastic.

It occurs to be now that putting something with a motor in such a hot environment might not be a good idea. Can anyone fill me in? If it's not safe for the toy, I'd like to add that amendment in the follow-up.

(In retrospect, I should have asked before writing the original. Live and learn, I suppose.)

I've always heard that it's ok to put waterproof vibrators in the dishwasher, if the material is dishwasher safe. I haven't tried it though.

I just did a google search and there appears to be a "top rack dishwasher" method to sanitizing toys. However, it seems to be for silicone toys.

I think the dishwasher method of sanitizing toys only applies to non-motorized toys. It would be fine to put a silicone dildo in the dishwasher, but heat would damage a vibrator motor whether the toy is waterproof or not.

It's generally not recommended to put any toy with a motor in the dishwasher. While the external materials may be able to withstand the heat, the electronic components may not.

I figured as such. I'll definitely add that to the follow-up review, then.

Thanks a lot!

Yeah, seems like quite a bad idea.

This is pretty much what I was going to answer as well.
