We favor silicone for sanitary reasons. Not too many other materials can be boiled, bleached, or popped in the dishwasher

We like that it's such a safe material. Since we've been educating ourselves about material safety, we've become uncomfortable with most materials that fall lower on the material safety scale.

Sanitary reasons. It's one of the few materials I feel okay about sharing.

That I can clean it completely.
That it's firm enough to stimulate my g-spot but soft enough that I can thrust freely.
That toys made out of it with a glossy finish take so little lube.
That it won't yellow, melt or tear on me.
That it's pretty - it's hard to make a TPR toy with no small artifacts in the material.

It's easy to clean and sterilize, can potentially last forever, is available in a range of firmnesses, and often looks quite lovely. The only fault is that it often attracts lint, and that's certainly something I can live with.
