I was just wondering what would be a good toy for a person who is new to using them
What is a good toy to start off with?

I would definitely recommend that you start with a clitoral vibrator first to get used to the feel of that and then you can move on to dildos/G-Spot vibrators. That's the way I went anyway

It depends on if you have any experience, I think. And if that can give you any clues as to what you might like.
A good clitoral vibrator is a great investment, though.
I wouldn't recommend starting without vibration, necessarily, unless you've had good experiences with it. It can be very rewarding, but it's not for everyone and for a first toy, you might have a disappointment.
The thing about dildos is that shape / texture are very individual preferences, and it might take some looking to find one that really works for you. A vibrator will give you something more likely to be successful without that "searching".
If you know you'd like someone inside you, an insertable vibe that's strong enough to be used clitorally would be a good mix.
G-spots are really picky. You may need more or less curve, so I wouldn't recommend buying and expensive g-spot vibe before you know what shape would work for you. And it's okay if g-spot play doesn't work for you, too. So definitely experiment with something inexpensive first.

A well reviewed but inexpensive clitoral vibrator is a good starter one. Preferably something with speed variations, a powerful top speed, and easy to use. I think an egg with a wired remote is something that is likely to do the job for most women.

For my first toy I got a small vibrator that could be used for either clitoral stimulation or penetration. That way I had both options and could explore a bit.

It would depend on your feelings. If you orgasm best/easiest with clitoral stimulation, get a clitoral vibrator and begin there. If you prefer penetration, try a different vibrator. Either way, you should have a great time.

Start with the Evolved Seduction, it has a range of vibrations and the shape is great for first timers. I have had it over a year and it's still my favorite toy!!

My first toy was a very simple hard plastic vibe. It worked really well and I enjoyed it alot. I think spending time really looking at different things and reading reviews on them will help you pick the right one for you.

A nice basic vibe will be great to start with!

It depends on your experience and comfort with penetration. If you've had experience with penetration before, a simple insertable vibe that can also be used clitorally is a good starter toy. If you haven't done much with vaginal penetration, you might want to stick with a silicone toy since they are softer and more giving and stick with a smaller girth, unless you already know what your body likes internally. I echo the sentiments about not investing in a high-end g-spot vibe unless you are already really familiar with your g-spot and have a good idea what it will take to stimulate it since they are so different from woman to woman. That said, I don't necessarily thing investing in a high-end, but very basic or simple toy is a bad idea. You definitely get what you pay for, in my experience with quality of material and vibration.
A lot of clit vibes are very discreet and non-threatening and make good first time toys, especially for girls without much penetration experience.

I vote for something that is just for the clit. That's what I started off with, and I feel it was the best choice. Clit vibes are just amazing. To this day, I'd rather have an amazing clit vibe anything else.

I really enjoyed my first toy..which was a baby jack rabbit..but honestly I just used it for clit stimulation because it was intimidating

I started with a vibrating toy for penetration, but a lot of my friends started with clitoral vibrators instead.. I think it depends on your sexual experiences prior to starting with toys.

Just start out small and slow. You don't want to go in to strong and hurt or scare yourself.

Personally? I tried to go with an all-of-the-above option. I got something that vibrated and was curved and at an approachable size the first time.

Start out with a non pinpoint vibe

A good vibrating dildo would be excellent, you get both penetration, vibration and clitoral stimulation to figure out what you like.

Vibration would be the best best.

I'd be specific and say something like a silicone, g-spot vibe. The first vibe I bought for myself was the G-Twist Semi Realistic from Fun Factory. (Many steps down from the Tiger).
I could use it as a clit vibe. I could use it as a dildo. I could use it for thrusting with or without vibrations. With it I was able to explore vibrations on my clit, in my vagina, my g-spot... I am glad I started out with the G-Twist. In one toy, it covered all the bases opening me up to the world of sex toys.

Def something with vibrations

Something with vibrations. The experience of using one for the first time is amazing! Other toys are fun but nothing compares to that experience!

Vibrations galore!

i would recommend a bullet

A little clitoral vibrator can go a long way and is a good way to explore what else you'd prefer to try.

Depends on your price range.

Good suggestion, I'd go with something similar also.
