I forgot to click 1 or 2 options. Anyways, all products need good care. The more to care for things in life the longer they last in most cases. I would imagine Stainless Steel would be the longest lasting, 500 years from now it would still be in great condition if taken care of, or stored

I don't really have any experience with TPR/TPE, so I didn't vote on them.
The rest, though, as long as you take care of them, they should last quite a long time. Nothing is going to happen to glass unless you drop it off your house onto concrete or something - same with ceramic.
My few older silicone toys look just fine, although I know that if silicone gets a tear in it (so just don't use/store it with knives and scissors), it's game over.
Plastic should be fine if you're storing it in a cool and dark place, so it doesn't discolour or anything from being in the sun. Only time will tell if certain pieces have discolouration issues on their own.
Wood should be fine for a lifetime unless you chip the finish. Steel is fine unless you drop it into a blender and it gets dinged up. Non-steel metal really depends on the metal in question, some are harder / softer. Some are more likely to rust than others, et cetera.
You *can* destroy or abuse any of them. I'd say that Steel/Metal (if it's a quality metal) and Glass are the most hardy, though. And stone, stone is probably up there, too.

Steel probably lasts the longest in my opinion, particularly high grade Stainless. Then Glass, as long as you don't break it.
Silicone lasts a nice long time as long as you take care of it (but I suppose that's true of most everything lol). You just have to watch out for dings and cuts and possible reactions with other materials and chemicals.
Jelly is probably what I'd consider the cheapest and least hardy material on the list.

Jelly, TPE, and TPR are the least lived materials. But they're still fun!
12/15/2011
Never had anything last longer than glass for me!
12/15/2011
Silicone, glass, and metal can all last a lifetime if you take good care of them (I imagine ceramic and wood probably could, too). Plastic can also last a while, too, depending on how well the toy is made and how much it's used.
12/15/2011
Glass and metal would probably be the longest lasting (though silicone would likely last a long time too with the right care). Of course it all depends on use, storage, cleaning.
12/15/2011
Glass, Silicone and steel typically will last a long time if properly cared for.
12/15/2011
GSS, same as above. But Glass and Silicone can break or react badly, but I've never heard of Stainless Steel degrading

If you want a toy that will last a life-time, steel and glass can do that. Glass is a little more delicate, but a lot less pricey. I have many glass toys, but I have yet to own a steel one.

High-quality silicone toys can last a while, but I don't know about a lifetime. I've heard that if you cover them with a condom during use and use mild soaps to wash them, they'll last longer.
For most vibes, the motor will break down after a while. Sorry, but it's just the truth. I had a relatively cheap jelly vibe that lasted for 2 years, and I would use it on high for an hour at a time a few times a week, but eventually it got weaker and started eating batteries like crazy. Better quality toys may last longer, depending on how you use them, but I don't have any experience that would qualify me to answer that question yet.

The other factor to consider is how often/heavy you'll be using the product. We've had some toys made of less durable materials for years because they don't get used as frequently as others.
12/15/2011
Lol of course glass or steel! Unless the glass breaks, you can have it FOREVER.
12/15/2011
Silicone, glass and stainless steel. Plastic can also last you a good long time, if it's the hard ABS plastic.

My understanding is that pure silicone toys can potentially outlast their owners. I don't know precisely how long they last, though, so someone else will have to verify.

Glass or steel would be the top of the list. Glass can break so steel may win there. Silicone toys have survived my torment for 2 years so far

It's a tie between glass and steel for me.
12/15/2011
I think steel can last forever.

as long as you aren't running it over with a car I say glass.
12/16/2011
What makes a toy last or not last for us seems to be more of an issue with the motor they use. I haven't had a toy I've had to toss due to the material.

I guess glass and steal would last longest, but I prefer Silicone because of the feel of it and find it more enjoyable overall.

I have yet to get rid of a silicone toy, a few are over a year old. Glass could break but not likely with a little care. Metal and steel can be bent or scratched although they could be fixed if someone knew what they were doing. Of course the finish (Such as chrome) may be ruined.
Stainless is time immortal, nothing short of a forge will deform/ruin it and no matter what, the finish can be polished back out like new. Even though they are expensive they will last forever.
