I'm a year older than my husband and his friends always like to joke and call me a cougar. Sometimes it's funny, but it definitely gets old considering we've been dating since high school (we're married now, obviously). I remember always being a grade ahead... humiliating at times!

So what do you guys think?

A few times when I have been doing radio interviews I've been referred to as a cougar. I always correct them. But correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought a cougar was a single woman over say 40 who goes after younger guys. Doesn't being married kind of disqualify you from that label? I don't like it, it sounds goofy to me to be called that.

Definitely misusing the term. As AngelvMaynard said, it's women over 40 who are single and going after younger men. But the term is being used more loosely now, I guess. Being a woman older than her man is apparently weird. I don't think so!

I think a woman who goes after much younger men (regardless her age) is a cougar. A year doesn't make much of a difference, though. That's just weird.
